I guess ID is like SGH. They coordinate and make sure everything runs smooth.

Contractor is like one of the Specialist. They are good in certain area.

Any feedback on Pros & Cons??

I use one main contractor, I find contractor cost cheaper. If you know your design, you can just engage a contractor, the contractor can give you advice on your renovation too. ID would design your house for you, for which you'll pay a premium.

For my case I think another way. ID design for you and also overlook everything for you so you dun have to worry

but provided you have a good and resposible ID. And you just have to talk to him/her. Contractor wise they will also

as time charge you expensive too... And its dangerous as most are malaysian you might not find them at times... So I still prefer

ID...

ID and Contractor are just schematics. Just different names for the same job.

More and more contractors call themselves ID. Most contractors have done a lot of jobs before, so they more or less know what designs works and what does not. People always say that contractors will be cheaper. Not true....If they sense that you are noob, they will still chop you.

Some IDs have absolutely zero design sense, yet they still call themselves ID. Essentially, they are main contractors, but they charge a non existent "design premium" despite having no design sense.

Job Scope of ID/Contractor is to do renovations.

Bottom Line:

ID = Businessman

Contractor = Businessman

Aim: Both wants to make the most $ out of you. (Nothing wrong with that. If you are doing this for a living, you would also act like this.)

Let's look at the effect of ID and Contractor then...

Effect of ID/Contractor

Good ID/Contractor = No worries renovation + Cost effective

Bad ID/Contractor = Nightmare renovation + Expensive

Since the job scope is the same, the design (or lack of) is the same and the aim is the same, the difference between ID and Contractor is almost non existent.

They can but they don't need to. You can check from the RADAC site.

Don't be obsessed with the certifications though. A lot still depends on the contractor you are working with.

If don't rely on certs, what else can we rely on ? There are too much self advertising here, and contractors/IDs pretending to be satisfied customers and promoting themselves. Even the reviews here cannot really be trusted.

I agree with karthy0105 about the RADAC comment. More importantly, these certs cannot really protect you. If there is dispute, RADAC and Case cannot help you out much. The most, they remove the guy from the listing. Most of the time, they would just ask you go small claims tribunal, because it's a civil case. Not even calling police can help, since it is still a civil case.

It's the case of good to have the certs, but no guarantees.

Dear frostyapple, I feel exactly the same way as you. The forum is not reliable, due to to much self advertising and fake stories/reviews. To me personally, I don't think I can rely on RADAC or CaseTrust either.

I have been surfing underground for quite a long time, and believe me, I am also having a lot of headaches about solving this problem. When I figure out a solution, I'll tell you...

I met with a contractor who has a busness ad in this forum, I don't seem to find any bad comments about them. I went to see an ongoing project, I think the workmanship is average. I really wonder whether I can trust that the admin never remove any bad comments about them.

Perhaps this comment will be removed too.
