If not, should go for hacking and lay tiles. Of course, you can overlay, but no guarantee that the tiles below will not crack or pop up in future especially there are hollowness in it. If the bottom tile cracks or pops up, it will affect the ones that are above.

dinobros 1 Report post Posted October 12, 2011 (edited) 1) if you overlay, your house become lower and smaller2) if the original tiles are old, it may pop and affect the new ones3) if the original water proofing not done well, if there are water leakage to your neighbour below, u will need to hack and relaySince you are renovating now, might as well hack and relay. For my unit, spent about 4k more for the hacking Edited October 12, 2011 by dinobros

renoseeker 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2011 So what's the rule of thumb here? Resale Flat = Hack and Relay and New Flat = OverlayAm I correct?
dinobros 1 Report post Posted October 15, 2011 So what's the rule of thumb here? Resale Flat = Hack and Relay and New Flat = OverlayAm I correct?Hi renoseeker,For brand new flats: not allowed to hack for the first 3 years thus no choice but to overlay for kitchen and toilet floor and wall tiles. For resale flats: personal preference
