BIRD1 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2011 Hi folks;Been looking around the forum but not much has been discussed on built in microwave oven. Any infos from the masses? Please share...So far, searching from webbies and shops, generally price range is from $300+ to more than a thousand. Function wise, they could be normal basic microwaving plus defrosting to double or more function like a steaming oven and grilling - but think theres more. Obviously, the looks is thier forte being built in but at a price but what are their advantages or perhaps to best to concentrate the disadvantages....Any comments? strikingreality 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2011 Disadvantages (and the reasons why I didn't do it)- What happen if spoil and you need a replacement? What if the replacement does not fit the built in "box" for the previous microwave. Models will always be changed/upgraded. I don't count on the current model still being available when I need to replace my microwave. - I understand from my friends who did microwave research that the efficiency of the oven drops after a using for a while and the radiation will leak from the edges... hence for my peace of mind, I rather change my microwave every few years and it is more economical to find something cheaper with the frequent changes.- You're essentially paying the higher price for the aesthetics since it is the same functions as a normal microwave.- A built in oven is part of the kitchen fittings, cannot bring along with you if you move house. BIRD1 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2011 Hei thats 3 big reality points there! Not sure bout the leaking radiation thingy - will need to read up on that (thanks for that tip) but one thing for sure as in all electronics items will expire someday and so exact dimension of replacement will be hard. That i agree with ya. Thanks! Any others....
