Zlia 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2007 Hi all =)Anyone into a country style home? Am hoping to do up my house in country style, but seems like it is not so popular in Singapore eh...
JS21 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2007 Just do whatever pleases you, don't be afraid, no need follow the current trend, which will change anyway. For myself, I prefer the natural look, stone stone everywhere. The only thing modern are the crystal chandeliers, which come to think of it, is not exactly a modern choice since for ages people like crystal chandeliers, should say it's more of a classic choice for me. I'm also treading alone since my choices are not the popular ones.

Zlia 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2007 ya, understand that it's not a popularity contest. just that if it's not popular, it's more difficult to find country style related furnishings. i've seen Ikea have some nice country style furnitures, but not sure if they're of ok quality. other than that, any idea where else will have nice country style bed frame? esp those with storage below? and tv console as well? Some people shop the world (or at least, go to Vietnam, etc) just to get specific pieces to match the theme they have in mind. You have two choicesa. Blend in with the crowdb. Express your own individuality. For a., just walk into any ID, tell them you want a "resort" look, a "zen" look, etc. They have ready-made templates for that, they'll do all the carpentry for your TV cabinets, wardrobe, etc. Then go shop for L-shaped sofa, glass-topped coffee table, etc. and you'll be done. And your house will look like a million others from the ID.For b., you'll really have to work hard at it. You may shop for pieces from antique shops, salvage doors from old temples and redo them into dining tables, buy rugs from Afghanistan, buy stained glass from Turkey, etc.-- ie you'll go as far as you need to get something that fits.It will take lots of time, perhaps lots of money (depends on luck). But your house will not be like anything the ID can do for you.Choice is yours.
mm1069 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2007 Hi all =)Anyone into a country style home? Am hoping to do up my house in country style, but seems like it is not so popular in Singapore eh...If you really like the style, then go for it! You are going to spend your resting hours at home mah I don't have a country style home but just a little room. Got a beautiful display cabinet and writing desk from Cottage Crafts . But my guest bed is just a simple mattress and divan which can be dressed up with bedlinen and cushions. Actually no need to get everything in same style just accent pieces will do. Once you start looking out for them, you will find more. And like others have said, don't be afraid to mix and match and modify

Zlia 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2008 Hi OMO, I engaged cottage craft finally. You can go look for them - Romie or Daniel. So far it's quite nice working with them. So far the IDs that i know specialising in country style are:Forest in Thomson PlazaCottage Craft in Stamford HouseCreation from the Heart in AnchorpointCountry Concept in Tanjong Katong ComplexOut of these 4, i feel that Forest and Cottage Craft have got the concept and material that we like. But Forest's specialisation is only carpentry. So their quote for renovation works is SUPER EXPENSIVE. So we were left with the choice of choosing Forest for carpentry and finding another contractor outside to do the reno works, or have Cottage Craft do everything for us.. Finally, we chose Cottage Craft. For furniture, Cottage Craft has nice furniture as well. Else you can also try Ecolinks in Furniture Mall and Park Mall. Or Country Design in Sungei Kadut or Tanjong Katong Complex. Actually, i think Ikea has very nice country style furniture as well. Thinking of getting bed frame from Ikea but we'll see how la... if budget allows, we'll get, else we'll just retain our bed now. Spotlight has very nice country style bedsheet sets though. Like them alot!Anyway, where is your place located?

Countryliving 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 I love country theme. It has a very cozy and lived in feeling. My exciting apt is a mix of country and classic theme. For my new EM, I would like to go for a modern classic look. It is not easy to get unique decor in S'pore. I pick up some of my furnitures and decors from garage sales, flea market and oversea trips. Every piece has a story behind it and everyone in my family loves it. I dun like the cookie cutter modern designs that most ID offers. Almost every new house I go to has the same feature wall and tv console. Boring.................I love country theme. It has a very cozy and lived in feeling. countrylover 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2008 Hi ZliaI'm really into country theme home too. I find that this is a style that will never go out of fashion. If we furnish our homes in zen, comtemporary styles etc, trends in colours and designs do change with times. If we see carefully, many people in Europe & Aust do their homes up in the country theme. Perhaps it's because there are lots of countryside & rural areas in those places, whereas Singapore is simply a modern city where everyone leads hectic lives! Hence, I strongly agree that it's not popular here...made even so by the fact that there are not many country themed IDs and furnishing shops here.I agree with what the others have shared with you. A home is where we dwell after a stressful day at work, therefore you shd renovate/furnish it according to what you want, not whether the theme is popular or not. The reason why I love this theme is because it gives me a warm and cosy feeling, something I look forward to after a tiring day at work.I'm doing my reno after CNY and will do it up in the country style. It's gonna be a challenge here in Singapore but I believe with proper research, budgeting and planning, it can be done! In fact, back to the days when I was still single, I already told myself I wanna have a country home when I buy my own flat. Over the past few months, I've been progressively buying my country style decor items from ebay. Things that are either not available here or too expensive. Prices are reasonable even with international shipping costs added. Really can't wait to display those items in my new home!If you find it difficult to find the furniture you want, might wanna consider to custom make. In my search for local companies that specialise in country style furniture, I found the following :http://wholesaleclassicfurniture.com/html/...french_fur.htmlhttp://www.bedznco.com/index.htmlThese are wholesalers/manufacturers. Thus, I believe their prices would be more reasonable than those retail outlets. Am planning to check them out after CNY. Of cos, you can also try places like Scanteak, Picket & Rail, Furniture Mall...but prices are quite expensive.Does anybody have any photos to share on their country theme home?
