jopej 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2011 (edited) Hi, I have been a very silent reader all these while. But after leeching on renotalk's information for so long, I started to feel a little guilty. Hope I can use this thread to share a little of my knowledge and experience. I started searching for id and contractors at least half a year ago.... We even thought of being the contractor ourselves and get sub-con in to do the individual work. I think we might be able to save more money. Having to work within our tight budget and yet not willing to settle with too little, we finally decided to get a contractor to do the job.The first person in my mind was the same guy who did my mum's hse 3 yrs back. Just a contractor, but a very practical person. He will not get us to waste money on unnecessary stuff and will introduce us to places with good bargain. But his quotation was very competitive with other contractors. (I actually compared almost 10 diff quotes at the same time) But through renotalk, I read a few good reviews about him. So we decided to give him a try... Glad to say, till this stage, we still have not regretted.. hahaha....Since we decided on using contractors instead of id, we have to do a lot a lot of homework ourselves. There will be nobody to tell us about aesthetic factors.... Below is a picture of the space planning I did for my home.... Dreaming 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2011 (edited) HiWelcome to renotalk! You draw up the floor plan on your own? That's awesome! We are quite similar in a way that we didn't hire ID but engage a contractor instead. Save cost as well as we already have the concept and design in mind. We sourced ideas from magazines (home & decor, square room), renotalk etc. and show the contractor pictures of it. So far so good. But becos we don't have a 3D design, we have to be careful with colors combinations and measurements. Good luck with your renovation! Btw, what kind of theme are u looking at? Those pictures look great! Edited September 21, 2011 by Dreaming
