Things has progressed a little, he called me just now to try to 'settle' things. He say now there is only 3 options:

1. Sue him

2. Terminate the contract (he didn't say how much he will pay us back)

3. Pay 'his workers' so that work can progress. Which surmounts to be about $30000. And he will pay me back the difference in 6 mths. (how can u still believe someone like him?)

I like the second option the most as I have had enough of him, But if he can't pay us back anything now, then how am I going to look for another contractor to finish the job? I have not much cash left. Not even close to $30000...

Even if I get a renovation loan, I cannot pay back next yr and the burden will be on my family. I will be going away to study, I can't give up the studying part, coz it is an opportunity that is hard to come by.

What other options I have?

1st thing come to my mind: How old 're u?

2nd thing: doing master programme, meaning that must have completed bachelor degree, right? Trying to write a master thesis?

Seemed resources spent in getting bachelor has been wasted.

Never mind, here is Warren Eward Beffet's 10 rules. Old man is always wiser.

http://www.corporateservicecenter.com/nevada-inc-whitepapers_files/buffet_rules_2_success.php

On top of that, he has one unwritten rule: "The second rule is not to forget the 1st rule."

I am 27yo. I earn my money the hard way. Every cent got blood and sweat. But old doesnt mean wise. Old ppl also get cheated. And my education sadly didn't teach me to pick out the rotten apples from the good ones.. I just feel sad that there are such ppl around.

Hi there, mind telling me whats the progression like ?

Progression as in what has been done to the house? Or what the terms that he has given us?

Oh yar I forgot to add that I told the I'd that I wasn't gonna give him any more money. I will give the workers directly. He said "NO, you got me wrong, I am I'll the one coordinating everything." but I told him, "I don't trust you anymore." then he said he will get a co ordinator. Like a middle man. And the guy he suggested is the electrician!!!! Sighs. I feel like they are all in this to bluff me more. Then he say, come on, I am trying to move things so you all can shift in. Then I have enough of him. I said let me think first. He will meet me tmr at 6pm, with the new terms. Don't worry guys, I wuldnt sign anything this time, it has dragged so long, so no difference waiting 2/3 more days to let me think it through.

Hi Nat, option 1 is the option u shd choose. Option 2...If u agreed to terminate the contract, he will be laughing w ur previous money in his pocket and nothing done... how can u let him off when he obviously trying to cheat... please skip this option....

Option 3 obviously not cos he is going to cheat more out of u.... So i suggest the only option is option 1... Go small court claim him... u dun need a lawyer... my ex colleague do it b4.... Be firm and go for option 1... i believe if he received the court order, he might start doing something for ur house... trust me... do not scare of him...We can be poor, but doesnt mean they can bully and eat us.... We cant let this type of ppl go free... he got to be punish if not more ppl will suffer...

Thanks dude. Encouraging comment. Poor doesn't mean powerless! I will check out small claims. Wouldnt sign anything with him tmr. Going to meet him tmr to negotiate.

The problem is if he continues to let him continue his work for him, im pretty sure his money will be all DRAINED. No point playing 'table tennis' with them.

May the force be with you. Need to teach these unscrupulous people some lessons so they won't cheat and hurt other people.

What other options I have?

Options:

1. Police, small claim, lawyer, etc etc....all these take time, money & energy, unless you want to have a "head-on" with him....

2. Read yr contract line by line, clause by clause. Cancellation of contract "half way" will need one to pay WIP, MOL and 15% of total contractual amount, usually.

3. Pray hard and arm with you an empowered rod, like Mosses and David did, make the impossible become possible.

Words of comfort: No pains no gains. Only through pains one grows.

bepgof, it is quite mean of you to deride nat0206 instead of saying something more constructive. Don't over-estimate your own wisdom. Looking at your accounts of your experience with SPF, I can tell that you are not that smart yourself.

Sorry to hear about your ordeals. Your contractor is sounding very much like the 'Ah Soon' who turned from a popular contractor into a con-man. In the case of Ah Soon, he also kept asking his clients to pay him more so that the works could move on. In the end, he ran away with all the money and many people suffered.

So I will advise that you don't pay him anymore until he has delivered his work. Who knows, your contractor might have squandered all your earlier payments in casinos.

Not sure how much you have lost, but with your high qualifications you will be able to recoup the losses over a short period of time. So don't be too upset about it.

That was why I shared my "stupidity acts" to make ppls here smarter and wiser.

Back to basic, I couldn't help believing into a bachelor holder could sign a reno contract ended into "such a stage". Believed the story has been somehow being "distorted", want ot bet?.

No point to start with saying: " sorry to hear this or that.." I've passed out from school long long long time ago (btw I'll be going back to school in coming Jan 2012 again)I'm frank, blunt and direct nd most importantly, speak my mind. Aim and hit, wouldn't want to waste any bullet anymore, have been wasted a lot liao.

You've missed my words of comfort.
