MeRfMeRf 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2011 Was just wondering, what material did you use for your counter top? Does it come in one whole piece or seperate piece where they need to glue the two parts together? And why did you put a back splash on the area above the sink?well if im not mistaken, the solid surface top i got was from Klassicut and they are based in JB, MY. its some form of acrylic according to the installer.there are many other branded one including Corian, Smasung Staron, LG Hausys etc etc. our ID when with Klassicut coze he used them before and cost wise was reasonable. it came as 2 pieces originally when delivered to my place and yes they glued the 2 parts together. the joining line is actually the kitchen sink there, however after joining the 2pcs together, they will then sand down the areas between and polish it off, the line is only visible at certain angles, if not quite flawlessly down.we did the back splash on the area just above the sink so that it also flows along with hood/hob area with the other sides. if you are refering to the black glass panel above the sink on the cabinet, thats actually the dish strainer area.can share the price of your fridge ? I am interested to get that too hi,am interested in the DIY floor lamp too.wish to try out DIY too.(isnt complicated to do?)able to pm me full details including the RGB LED light bulb with remote from aliexpress?tks alot. MeRfMeRf 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2011 Very nice DIY mood light... The DIY mood light is running on wired power supply or wireless and you charge it? Can PM me the RGB LED light bulb details too pls? Thanks!haha, the my DIY mood lamp not so high tech lah, its running on wired power supply. you can easily find this at most lighting shops.do check ya PM for more info on the RGB LED bulb.Very interesting! BTW, could I know what type of surface top did you use for the kitchen?erm as mentioned earlier, mine was from Klassicut and it is an acrylic based solid top.here are some information which i've come across during my research on Kitchen Worktops.WorktopsKitchen Work topOn top of the bottom kitchen cabinet, where normally the hob and sink are placed on.a ) Postformed Top- Pressed edge surface tops with profiles and laminated surface finish on top.Strengths -- Economic- Wide variety in colour, brands and profiles.Weaknesses -- joinery lines trap dirt and bacterial.- Not heat, stain, scratches resistant.- High in maintenance.- Backsplash is a separate trimming and is only adhere to the top by silicon. Water seepage may still occur.b ) Solid Surface Top- Compressed acrylic top with a homogeneous membrane that look like cultured marble.Strengths -- Heat, water, scratch and stain resistant.- Wide variety in colours.- Hard wearing.- Low in maintenance.- Seamless joineries.- Seamless backsplash, eradicating water seepage.Weaknesses- Higher in cost.- May chip off it met with impact.Brands (Little Blue Bear)- Du Pont Corian http://www.corian.com/corian/c/en/h/Home/index.html- Hi-Macs (LG)- Staron (Samsung) http://www.staron.com/- Sureil (Fomica) http://www.formica.com.sg/prodinfo_solid.html- Klassicut - Acelite- Mi-lite- Bestone- Gold-life- Vansen- Cresto- Gloria- Marstone- BellusChoosing of (acrylic) solid surface(alexavierx)- need to do some research on the performance properties.- Worktop had gone through some resistace and durability tests based on some standards, e.g. ISSFA (http://www.solidsurface2002.com.xohost.com/issfa-2-01.htm)c ) Granite Top- Hard, coarse grained igneous rock composed chiefly of quartz, mica, orthoclase which is used for building material.Strengths -- Hard wearing.- Seamless joineries- Seamless backsplash, eradicating water seepage.Weaknesses- Highest in cost.- Generally porous by nature. Water and oil will seep in if top protective coat is strip off.Maintenance of solid surface topshttp://www.solidsurface.org/maintenance.cfmGlass TopsHhehe cool glass tops.. think not avaliable in singaporehttp://www.thinkglass.com/en/indexKB.aspx?sortcode=2.5.10.13.22.24Maintain kitchen tophttp://www.demesne.info/Improve-Your-Home/Kitchens/Kitchen-Counters.htm*info was posted by another forumer on another local forum.hope the info helps! MeRfMeRf 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2011 Wow MerfMerf, your place looks so good! Very comfortable on the eyes Hi Sis, thanks alot! your EM's reno progress is looking good too! ya we went with lighter colours coze the unit itself has very few natural light coming in, whites was used to bring out the brightness and grey overtones add to some lofty themes.another question, your MBR toilet has a glass door partition to prevent water splashing out when showering? Did you install a false ceiling in the toilet?yup, the glass partition was to prevent water from splashing and initially there was also a shower screen glass door as well, but due to space constraints, we made do without it, thus the back area of the shower cubicle is exposed still.nope i dint install the false ceiling, the toliets are prefabicated ones and come pre-assembled in a steel frame box will all pippings concealed by HDB originally.
