Help Needed: Offset Btw Cove Light And Ceiling Fan

Dear forumers. Appreciate your advice.

I am in the midst of my Reno and I believe my problem is not new to most ppl here.

Will you be able to share your experience of the offset distance between the edge of your ceiling fan blade and the edge of the cove lighting so as not to create a shadow cast when the cove light is switch on. Consider the L box cove is 9 inch depth and fan support is those typical HDB one, not those long industrial type.

ehh, i hope you dun mind me saying...

the purpose of a cove lighting is to make use of the ceiling to reflect light...

for sure will have the shadow of the fan...

so the lucky thing now is that you have a 9" cove...

do this... switch on your cove lights... put it at different depths of the cove so that you will see the distance of the light beams...adjust the lights till the light beams distance are to your liking....

I tot as long as your fan don't touch the lights will be fine? For me I just told my contractor the size of my fan and he will estimate the distance himself. See picture below:

hi musicbox, the problem is about 'cove lights' but yours is L box.

Shadow is caused by object in between light source and wall/ceiling/floor.

Cove light is "hiden" light, casts directly onto ceiling and reflects down to wall/floor. This light from ceiling is "soft" enough, won't cast any shadow onto floor/wall with fan blades in between.

However, don't ever choose ceiling fan with light at bottom, will cast shadow onto ceiling....
