Minor Electrical Job

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I will be getting my keys to my resale flat next month and need some minor electrical jobs done. Had a check on the existing power points and it was not sufficient. There are no SCV and telephone points in all the rooms. Drafted a list of what i am gonna do.

1) 3 SCV points

2) 4 telephone points

3) Changing of existing power sockets (from 2 to 4 output)

Need to change total of 4

4) Changing of light switches

5) additional 2 points of power sockets

Can I engage one electrician to do all these?

Should I paint before this or after?

Any estimated costs for this?

Any comments and advise will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

install 1st then paint...

painter will know how to cover up the boxes

you can DIY everything if you want...

but SCV point is how you want to run it...

either directly from the scv box outside (like what I did) or just simple looping...

Tel points (just my 2 cents worth) 1 point would do because now a days everyone uses a dect cordless phone...

so i guess not neccessary for all rooms to have tel point.

Also plan your internet points. Consider which service provider you will be using and plan the points carefully...

I guess many people do not really plan the electrical and internet points...

Electrical planning like location of the points, 2/3/4 way switches.

Dimmer points etc etc.... so dont jump into what is cheap or expensive...

Plan everything and of course budget... what you cannot live without and what you can accommodate.

Cheers

Thank you for your valuable advise. How do you go around looping the SCV points? I heard that it is best to get the SCV guys down to do it.

I am using MIO from Singtel and would be putting my router in the living room where the TV is. I also have a MIO TV...currently I am using Comtrend plugs to connect up the MIO which I think it is not that stable.

That is why I am intending to put my router in the living room now.
