zer0sg 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2011 The idea behind the usual placement of full height mirrors and mirrored sliding door...(dark tinted ones btw) is to reflect lights and space from both angles ... drawing away the attention from the unusual wall structure (which was self inflicted) the sofas idea : when viewed from the living room ... at a certain point... it becomes one long sofa ... heh The toughest part of all : the TV feature wall idea........... to be continued. Rover 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2011 The lounge area is cool. I'm contemplating on how to create one. My dining area will be next/beside the living. ejszaka 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2011 Finally!!! I've finished the layout of the house. I took almost 2 weeks and many hours of brainstorming and measuring the actual place over and over again.. Here's the floorplan of the idea in my head!!1) Created an artificial "foyer" at the entrance. Not sure whether to use different colour tiles for that small area - will it look weird? The recess under the windows with a depth of 16cm - thinking of creating a stone wall design with sleek shelves pure for aesthetics. Thats a KIV though. 2) The study-cum-living-cum-work room. Decided to utilised the recess under the windows as leg space for my suspended study table and because i am unable to hack the piece of wall in that room (due to the TV antenna signal cable which is locate there) I thought of hiding it in a book shelf (which faces the study table...) Right the the corner is a recent idea - a small half sofa ? Basically same design and pattern as the one in the lviing room but half. Was thinking of lounging there to watch videos on my computer or read a book. 3) The Living Room. Walls pushed back to create more space between sofa (its not an L shape... the leg rest portion is retractable) and the 46 inch TV console...Dining area is right under the beam (will be installing lights underneath) a forummer once advised... love your beams and you will start to have good ideas with them in mind...4)An open concept kitchen - am toying with the idea of not having and top cabinets for the sink / induction cooker area... something different and less cramping. Would get a single hob induction just to boil water ...2 door fridge / microwave / oven / cabinets etc etc blahblah and we have the dryer/washer stack next door An semi hollow block wall is erected to cordon off that area - for 2 westies..... thinking of bathing them there as well... may have to install a mini shower head at the back. 5) ~the new toilets~Have decided the combine the toilets into one and do an extended dry vanity for storage and well... vanity purposes. =) The wall inbetween MBR and toilet will be hacked completed and replaced glass - bigger shower area, opens up the space. 6) The ROOOM Entrances are from the bathroom area or the study area. whereby the "white colour walls" are full length mirrors.... and the slimmer one - is a sliding mirror door which opens up into 2 parallel wardrobes ... Will use the beam that follows after the wardrobes to install curtains .... a temporary "storeroom"... when you need to do some last minute tidying for guests coming over... =) A king sized bed with leather storage bed bed and half height plushie head board (dark colours complimenting the parquet flooring) and a settee create at the corner (the window there is rather longish... very suitable for a bay window effect... frthermore.. i've already erected a new wall there...) Any comments? =)))Hey zer0sg, very nice planning. I like the way you organise your space. Very out of the ordinary. Can imagine how many hairs you lost, brainstorming the ideas. You sure you not gonna have top hung cabinets in the kitchen? I know it opens up the space, but be very sure you don't need the storage space ya? I decided against a study area as I use my dining area to double up as a working area. with the tablet computers, laptops and a SMART tv, I reckon I won't be be needing a study area. Rover 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2011 My personal view for ur 'foyer' area : if the cabinet or watever shelve/structure u uses to demarcate the area is long enough to project this foyer portion, diff tile(s) will be able to make the area stands out. zer0sg 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2011 Yeap indeed. Ceilings are low. Recently went to a 3 room unit with top / bottom kitchen cabins on both sides... feels abit claustrophobic. The foyer : yeah... on paper it looks good.. the actual thing may turn out silly, haven seen a 3 roomer with a foyer yet haa. The study : ejszaka, yeah I am hesistant to do up a study... but we're both students. Studying is a big part of our lives... what i'm trying to achieve is a study area which is also a cosy lounge area.. space is of the essence!! Terence : floorplanner.com =) you could view it in 3D too (thats the most helpful part) Do take note of the measurements though... HDB floor plans are usually not as accrurate...The beams : hahah EJ, the vertical beams are offset with my ceiling horizontal beams... for yours... i think if you really really really want to open the space.. go get a PE to endorse then can knock down as well. The TV signal thingy : check with HDB... if no one uses it... may be able to take down....May still do up the cabinets afterall.... unless really minimalist living... 1 pot 1 pan. ejszaka 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2011 Haha.... ok. It's ok lah.. I could live with one pillar. The other pillar will be part of my bedroom wall and wardrobe. There's a 1/20 chance that someone is using that antenna lor.. given the demographic of residents there... mostly ah kong and ah ma who've been there since T.O.P. No store room for our 3I layout, always good to have a bit of storage space. I am creating as much storage space here there and everywhere. mabaricows 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2011 Hmm, I would also say that having the top wall hung cabinets in the kitchen help a lot. Most people will end up needing the storage space.. Wifey and I initially didn't want it but thought it through and decided to have them, right now having moved in, we can't imagine how it would have been having to live without those cabinets. Colour scheme etc etc.. A part of me now really really really want to employ an ID instead of a contractor... but it would be a waste as we already spent hours on the layout... sigh mabaricows : yeah.. am leaning towards top cabinets as well... Already have a potential problem with the open concept kitchen - ie lack of ventilation... but i dont wanna get the typical glass partition ! hehmach668 : abit on the high side between more than 40k. I like the pebble stones.My foyer frm main door to kitchen entrance is 5700 in dimension (entire stretch of the slate tiles). The wooden pillars are abt 4000 in dimension.
