Actually your marbled floor is very nice what...

If you want to go for a contemporary look, a big factor to pull off this theme is the furniture. for the floors, try putting plain carpets or rugs?

The green marble looks very 1970s or 1980s - very outdated. I had the same problem when my parents moved house.

They say the marble very expensive and the floor area very big so very expensive to hack and make new tiles.

If the marble was white with very few markings it would be easy to match and keep. However green is a very tough colour to match and decorate.

I think a good idea to cover up would be to use laminate flooring. Alternatively, you could go for a very retro-chinese kind of looks.

Use a lot of rosewood and slightly darker red / brown colours to complement the green marble.

Actually the marble is not really that bad - still got quite a lot of white.

But the problem is the tile looks like there's many separate pieces of different coloured stones; a little disjointed.

Still you can try to make it part of the design / colour scheme. Here's some images for your consideration:

Sigh. Don't know what went wrong with the links I pasted. Maybe they got shortened.

Anyway, I think it's best you hack the floor also; a little difficult to do anything contemporary with the green marble flooring.

Alternatively you can do laminate flooring.
