user123 5 Report post Posted July 25, 2011 Hi,I wanted a big piece of mirror stick directly onto the wall but the glass contractor told me the mirror will "rust" in time to come because of the salty cement joint on the tiles behind the mirror and also water vapor might trap behind the mirror.... Is it true? Anyway to overcome it? He suggested to construct a frame for the mirror but it's very bulky and add to additional cost.Any idea?
Synace 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2011 My contractor suggests to cut out the dimension of wall tiles on the wall and place the mirror such that the mirror surface if flush with the tiles surface next to it, don't think the mirror will "rust".Anyway, I'm thinking of doing up aluminium frame for the mirror, but also worry it may corrode when come into contact with water.Any comment? west 1 Report post Posted July 29, 2011 i think as long you seal up the edges of the mirror to the wall, you shouldnt get water vapour trapping behind and causing the corrosion
whisper 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2011 Hi user123, you may want to refer to this thread: Materials That U Regret Using/ Installing materials u regret using in ur renovation. At page 5, reply #163 "If you get a big wall mirror for the bathroom, try and make sure it is hung with brackets rather than just being stuck to the wall. We had one that started to develop 'patches' 6 months after installation. We removed it and bought a mirror with brackets which has had no issues at all." quoted by RimBlock. I copied & saved this info bcos one of my toilet mirror at my current home has this problem. Black patches visible at the mirror which is very ugly. I intend to put a big mirror in my MBR toilet for my new home so I keep this valuable info to remind myself to avoid such mistake.
