Documenting Our Journey Of Our Loveshack

Recommended Posts

We just met our ID and nearly fell off our chairs with the quotation for living roo, dining room (not much done actually), kitchen, yard/utility room, master bedroom, dressing room, second bedroom and both toilets and yard toilet. Shocked! :jawdrop:

Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request

Hi everyone

I have some questions which i hope someone can assist me in:

1. The contractor has quoted me a total of $8,000 for hacking the entire house, except the three rooms, which has parquet flooring. The number seems very high! Is this reasonable?

2. Does anyone have a good contact for an electrician?

Thank you.

Re: Hacking cost. $8K seems extremely high from my limited experience. My hacking + PE certification costs about half of yours, and you know how many toilets/walls/staircase I whacked right? Considering that mine even includes one wall that requires building a platform to whack...

But that said, every apartment differs in layout and amount of carpentry to whack so the easiest way is really to compare the quotes you get from the different IDs and contractors. Don't despair! Most of us went thru the jaw dropping quotation stage I think.

Hi corn, welcome to Renotalk!

Hmm about price comparisons, I think very hard to compare prices cos it's not comparing apples to apples. Example combo meal in McD is say $6.50 and BK meal is $5.90, which is worth buying really depends. Hacking costs, carpentry, flooring etc fall into this category.

Hope to see more updates!

hi everyone, i just want to give everyone an update on the situation.

As in my previous post, our first quote by the contractor was way way out of the park and we have embarked on another search for contractors. The first contractor was a family contact whom we had assumed (wrongly) would give us a good deal.

In any case, i have contacted and met at least 6 contractors in the last two weeks. Hopefully one of them will turn out to be the One.

I took the liberty of asking my friend to draw up a layout plan for me. I am actually quite happy with this. Except for some minor tweaks, i think i might just go with this design man.

Someone also did this 3D mockup of our living room. I found that this made the living room too small and it felt too dark.

Personally, I'd avoid the heavy furniture and the chandelier (what's that about anyway?!). It does take up waaaay too much space in my opinion. And too much big furniture in a small space will feel really oppressive after a while... I caaaan't breathe... gasp...

Love your walk-in wardrobe though! :good:

Yeah exactly. I felt that this was too cluttered!

Today was a full half day of searching for sanitary fittings and lights.

We shortlisted some Grohe items. w00t!

Even before our layout plan, final look of the house is confirmed, we already bought some lights. Wahaha.
