Our New Lovely Place

Recommended Posts

Hi all RT mates ;) ,

I have been reading RT T-blogs for quite sometimes and decided to start my own T-Blog.

Currently, looking for an ID is quite a headache issue as my wife and me are still not sure what to enquire.

We have not collected our housekeys yet but most probably will collect in the month of June, somewhere in 3rd week.

Anyway, we have approached one Interior Design company, named Blackjack Interior Pte Ltd which we got to know through a pamphlet left on our new house maingate. I have just checked through the HDB website on the listing of registered renovation companies but could not find this company listed there. This company has just launched an opening of new shop at Blk 418 Yishun. We have approached one of the sales manager, Miss Sharon Zhang and she has attended to us attentively yesterday. We have provided our floor plan to her and also told her what we want to do with our new flat (some ideas were copied from some of the fellow RT forumers) :P

The only thing that bother us now is whether is it safe to get them to do our renovation as the company is not listed in the registered list by HDB? :(

We have a few IDs and contractors in mind but have not approached them as currently my wife is sick and do not want her to move around to find them 1st.

Here are the list of IDs/contractors that we have gathered after reading through some of the T-blogs:

1) Rick Fok, Ideal House

2) Merane/Jessie, Inside Living

3) Andrew, Designer Guy

4) Alan Tan, Aian Furniture & Renovation Contractor

Comments and suggestions are welcome!! :yeah:

Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request

First of all, thanks for your comment and suggestion, nimm. :)

Actually my wife and I have decided to have a warm, bright and cosy theme for our new flat as we want to have a close family-bonding feeling with our 2 young daughters and my mother.

As for the budget wise, we already have it in mind. :D

Congratz on your new place! :sport-smiley-004:

Yes, having HDB registration is a MUST. It is common to check with the ID/contractor their registration name/no. under the HDB list for verification.

If you do not want to have any hassle in designing, you can try an ID. But I have heard that they are not much difference from contractors as you have to choose your own tiles, lamination and painting anyway. The extra service ID provide over contractors is probably just the 3D images.

Ultimately it boils down to experience (of what works) and responsibility of the ID/contractor.

Thanks sethho,

Perhaps we will check with them again on their registration name/no. on this saturday. :good:

Just came back from another Renovation Company: Tay Heng Long at Yishun 925.

Was handled by Mr. Ivan Teo who was friendly and able to advise on certain items not to be done as it would cost more for new flat as need to engage PE to approve for hacking of kitchen wall which would cost over $1k. However, was still quite puzzled when he told me that i could save this amount of money after 3 years cuz no need any PE inspection and approval by then, is it true?

Overall, I find that the quotation given by him is within my budget but may have to scrap away some additional things that I want to add on into the renovation, eg. Bathtub feature for my wife in the MBR, hacking away part off the kitchen wall to make counter-top.

I would like to check whether the following quotation for the add-on items are priced fairly or not.

  1. To supply and construct feature walls c/w TV console **** area (7 ft) - $2660
  2. To supply and construct Sliding wardrobe c/w feature wall at MBR (15 ft) - $4200
  3. To supply and construct laminate raised platform at MBR - $1600
  4. To supply and construct settie cabinet at MBR (8 ft) - $1200
  5. Addition cushion for settie cabinet - $500
  6. Haulage fees for sand and debris - $1200 to $1300

Thanks in advance for all advice and comments. ;)

He thinks you are carrot head.... Haulage for $1200...lol

Can't comment on items with feature walls as I have no idea what material is he offering. But its obvious the quote is pretty steep.

Thanks Seth, I also just realised after reading through footprint's T-Blog of 15 pages again on the haulage fees that she has mentioned previously.

This definitely makes me strike off this renovation company from my list.

Hope your wife gets better soon :sport-smiley-003:

Its best to go with your wife, but for first quote, you are just giving a draft plan for the ID for an estimated quote. That is why preparing your own list of 'works' with you wife helps.

So for the first "round", just go to as many recommended IDs as you can so that you can refine your list of reno items to be done and get more practical ideas.
