Recommended Posts

Work has been almost completed so decided to blog this experience to share with fellow forum readers.

Our 1st attempt on renovation, read up a lot in the forum, but sign up with unknown contractor due to sales pitch.

Our 1st hdb is a tiny 3 room, but with high ceiling (approx 3m) as we got the last floor.

What we did:

MBR

Platform with laminate flooring

Full height head board with tinted mirrors at the sides

"L" shape partition wall for 6ft wardrobe

Wallpaper for back of partition wall 6ft by 10ft

False ceiling with side cast lights

Living

Tv console and feature wall 4ft wide with tinted mirror 1ft by 4ft

False ceiling with side cast and cornice for whole living area and passage way

Toilets (MBR + Common)

2 Shower screen with cement base

Kitchen

Approx 20ft with cement base

Top and bottom cabinets and solid surface table top

Installed cooker hood n hob (rewire for vitroceramic hob)

All electrical points inclusive in package.

Installed 6 downlights for living area

Installed 4 downlights for MBR

Lost count of all side cast lights, but it is for MBR and Living area, approx 16T5?

Installed chandelier in MBR, dining table light, passage way light, common room light, light for 2 toilets and service, and lastly kitchen.

Standard Paintworks but we choose only 2 colours.

Damage: low 16k

Comments and PMs are welcomed.

Kitchen did not do "C" shape cabinets, only "L" shape.

Nothing except paintworks in bedroom 2.

Whining summary on contractor

As both of us are working, we only had weekends to check on the renovation progress.

The contractor never monitor progress of our reno, only visit the unit once a week in the morning if there were works done for the week.

Poor workmanship on all the things his workers had done. Tell him things to rectify but nothing is done until last few weeks before handover. Delay handover for more than 1 month.

Contractor no show during rectification, we had to tell his workers what is wrong. Sometimes his workers no show also. Can you imagine how pissed off we are waiting every weekend in the house.

Contractor money good to earn hur? Just make telephone calls to arrange workers.

Rectify about 2 times already and still ongoing. We are still holding onto the last payment.

Everytime his worker came sure create some mess again.

Issues

"C" shape kitchen: kitchen already so small he still propose "C" shape. Luckily I tell him we only want L shape.

6ft tv console/feature wall: installed already and we realised there is no space for our dinning table. Wife called him immediately and scold him because he assure us there will be sufficient space. He still wanna charge us for rectifying it?!? It's like telling us to pay for his mistake, crap. In the end no charge.

Living room false ceiling: We bought downlights suggested by him. The downlights he suggested have glass transparent frame. The workers did a bad job cutting the holes for the downlight, we could see the badly cut holes made by them through the transparent frame. Feedback to him and took at least 2 weeks to get someone to rectify it. Rectify once by his workers, still badly done. He called up the lighting shop to get the workers to rectify, tell us he got to repatch the cornice and wanna charge us again, crap rite? In the end no charge, lighting shop workers did a better job, but his painter screw it up as he needed remove the downlight abit before he can repaint the cornice. Now still waiting for rectification.

Installed dining light wrongly, shifted the point 2 times before the electrician get it right.

Cleaning: Told us the house will be cleaned by one of the weekend as we had arranged for the delivery of our furniture. Thursday call to remind him and he assure us. Saturday morning, we reach our house and saw that it is not clean up at all. Call him up immediately, he say send someone down to rectify. We had to clean up part of the living room ourselves to make room to place some of the furniures for the 1st delivery of the day. 2nd delivery guy had to wait for 1 hour before contractor and his guys came as there was too much dust in the house and we had nothing to sweep the floor with. Contractor came with a broom and ask his workers to do the job. Reason for the house not clean up: his worker put him aeroplane. If he had bothered to check whether work is done, would this had happen? crap no. 3

Rectifying poor workmanship: We had to wait for his workers to come. Isn't he suppose to be doing the job? As we were eager to get our house done, we did not bother about this. Some of his workers also put us aeroplane, no show. How nice.

That's all I will whine for now.

Hi Hi ,

The trunking is nicely done..we're opt'g for false ceiling in master to hide the trunking ..but it's totally unnecessary if done this way :thumbs up:
