1.1m 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2011 Hi, my solid surface sink area is in quite a sad state after 8 years of use.. some of the silicon are getting thinner.. realised some parts are also leaking into the cabinet below..any DIY ideas to clean up this mess.. i regreted not tiling the sink area when i did up my reno years ago. I was thinking of buying some water proof silicon and just go over the existing lining :.. need some tips to do this nicely
Brandon Xue 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2011 Would suggest that you remove the exisiting silicon before applying a new layer. Silicon would stick better this way.

lawry 3 Report post Posted January 23, 2012 Hi 1.1m, got your private message. Whether top mount or under mount, it's ok to remove the silicon first before you apply a new layer. For my own sink, the leaks has stopped, but I had to apply a hideous thick layer of silicon for that to happen. 1.1m 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2012 U use which brand of silicon? Its some industrial silicon recommended by a h/w shop in Ubi. Completed my job in 3 hours.. scrap off the silicon. Dismantle/Clean up the piping .. and resilicon back the piping and sink edges..I doubt i will last as my design is a undermount design.. the wood holding the sink and solid surface are already wet and disintegrating. Anyway its is dam cheap to diy. just to share the cost.. Industrial silicon( white/anti mould) 1 tube $3.50, Silicon gun $3, sandpaper$1 ( no use at all) , scrapper $1.30, epoxy ($6.50) also no use at all. Less than $20.. its on the worksmanship to complaint..else everything is working fine .. will post a pic shortly.

Confidential 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2012 Just a casual question, I know there are two ways to mount a sink, undersunk and sit-on-top, maybe there are more so perhaps someone can enlighten me. Either way, the undersunk type seems to be given more problems like leaking and stuff right?

albertchng 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2012 (edited) Just a casual question, I know there are two ways to mount a sink, undersunk and sit-on-top, maybe there are more so perhaps someone can enlighten me. Either way, the undersunk type seems to be given more problems like leaking and stuff right?Pardon, there are 3 methods to mount a sink topmount, flushmount (also known as inset) and undermount.I was chatting with my id about undermount kitchen sink and he advise me not to go for it as it will be very troublesome to remove if need replacement. He say my kitchen cabinet is European design with full blum hinge systems, servo drive for drawer and top cabinet, and premium range quartz top, will be crazy to hack away to replace my sink. I'll be getting Teka Ebro sink if if i cant find better (current place is using Suter sink since 2003 and is still going strong, too bad Hensley dont carry Suter anymore).
