Recommended Posts

yes, shawn, the sofa was delivered on sat 24/9. the delivery team was quite helpful and friendly. as for the quality, i will give our feedback end of this week after we get to sit on it for a few days. there was too much unpacking and we really did not have time to laze around on the sofa.

Hi Sam

I agree with what you said. That is the reason why we normally have stichings on the chaise as we have difficulties coming up with a big piece of leather. On top of that you can smell it. Leather sofas will have a very strong leather odour.

There is a drastic method which you can use, its the flame test. If its PU you will see soot on it. Geniune leather doesnt burn that easily. Its to your discretion. Just a piece of advise thats all.

Not all genuine leather sofas will have a very strong leather smell. That is because only vegetable tanned leathers will have the strong leather smell. Chromium tanned leathers hardly have any "leather smell" as the leather smell is usually from the leather creams and conditioners that have been used on it prior to sale/delivery. I prefer vegetable tanned leathers and they usually cost more even though the quality of both leathers are the same.

Hi El,

I have heed your advice and bought my EL half leather sofa. But when i go home and read the invoice, it states top grain Leatherette. When i google leatherette, the answers said it means artificial leather. Can you please clear my doubts?

Hi EL,

I've received my sofa couple of weeks back and am very happy with the finishing product. but recently, i realise there's a thread that is torned on one side of the sofa. I remember in one of your post, this defect is consist under manufacturing defect which is cover under the warranty policy (correct me if am wrong). can I know if this is the case?

Also, i remember correctly that when am at your showroom your sales mentioned that all sofa comes with a 5 yrs warranty card. But I was not given at all. Is the delivery guy suppose to pass me the card or am I suppose to collect personally?

Last of all, I'm suppose to have a FOC item given by your sales but didnt receive it at all. Pls verify.

Hi Skylimit1979

BAsed on what you have shown me, that is not consider a defect. A defect is being called a defect when the fillings are exposed and the leather or PU is torn. As the sofa comes with double stiches, it will not be torn that easily. I had checked and it seems that the warranty card is being sent to you, if you have not receieve it maybe it has been lost in the mail. Please let me know your invoice number and we will send a new warranty card over. Please advised me what is the free gift that has been promised but not delivered. I will make sure that it will happen. We will send it up personally for you. But Still its of utmost important that you send me your invoice number so that I can proceed with it. Thank you for posting.

Hi EL,

As what you mentioned, this shouldnt be happening because your sofa comes with double stiches, so how do you explain this? So if this doesnt mean defect or poor workmanship, so am I right to say EL won't take it as a warranty claim and won't rectify this problem as the fillings are not exposed yet? in your post #23, you stated that "5 years against stiching & 10 year against structural damage" My question is will EL honor this so call " Not Defect" (as mentioned by you) and help me rectify this problem?

Am curious how do you know that the warranty card had been mail out to me when I didnt even give you my invoice number. Are you just saying this to cover EL mistake?

This my invoice number 10448, the FOC item is indicate in my invoice I believe you will be able to see it.

Hi skylimit1979

As you mentioned you sofa was recieved a few weeks ago, I had checked and am sure that those warranty cards had been sent out. The defination of stiching means that the stiches has loosen and the fillings has been exposed. We will have to change the whole piece of leather/PU for you.

As I had mentioned before, we will honour what had been said, its not justifiable for us to change the leather/PU for you just because of a loose thread. What I can assure you that if it deteriorates, we will take action. You have to understand the rationale behind why do we want to warranty our stiches, its because we want our clients to rest assured that the stiches doesnt come loose and expose the fillings inside, the sofa becomes unusable.

As for your FOC Item, I will send our guys to deliver it. He will contact you tomorrow to arrange the timing. Thank you.

Your explaination is accepted. So I've to bear with this loose stitches for as long as this sofa can last me is it? This doesnt make sense at all, am not asking you to change the sofa or replace the leather/PU. Am just asking if you guys is able to just sew or stitch it back or is there a solution that you can advise me. I cant be living with this loose thread forever. I've thought of cutting the loose thread away, but it will have a gap in between the stitches (and am afraid that the warranty will be void). SO YOU TELL ME WHAT NOW!!!

So your delivery guy will deliver the FOC item and the warranty card?

Hi skylimit1979

Yes you can cut the loose thread away, the warranty will not be void, or you might want to leave it alone. As long as your sofais giving way, we will take all necessary actions to rectifythe problems. This is just a very minor issue, a loose thread will not do any damage to your sofa, you can rest assure. Our guys will call you to arrange the timing with you for the leather kit. Your warranty card had been sent out under my supervision. Have a great day!!!

Yes, this is just a minor issue to EL and Yes this won't cause damage to the sofa. But as a consumer, this is a sore eyes as it's very obvious. Although this is not an italian sofa which cost more the $5K but for the price I paid $2K is alot to me. I'm not expecting 100% prefect finish product (even an expensive car will have problem) but just a solution from EL. I'm really very disappointed with the workmanship and so call warranty that cover the stitches. What if after 5 yrs and the stitches start to get worst and expose the internal filling, will EL still bear the responsibility after the warranty coverage?

I cant accept your solution to just leave it or cut it away. I hope that EL can bring the sofa back for re-stitching.

Frankly, I will not be able to accept it too because it is white thread against a dark background and an eyesore to me. But this has nothing to do with poor workmanship because is obvious from the picture that the thread was damaged by something/someone after the sofa had been manufactured. You risk further damage to the sofa if you want EL to bring it back and have them removed all those stitches in order to give it a new stitch.

At first I too thought the thread was damaged by something/someone, but when i look closer, if something did scratch out the thread there will defintely be scratches to the leather/PU.

Why do you said i risk further damage to the sofa if EL bring it back??

Because the original factory protective wrappings have been removed and disposed off when they delivered the furniture to you. If EL bring your sofa back, they risk damaging other parts of it unless EL comes with all those cardboard, foam or bubble wraps that those relocation/movers always used when moving their clients stuff. Also, they are unlikely to bring the sofa back all the way to their factory in Malaysia just for a broken thread. They may outsourced it to a third party locally and anything can happen along the way. Sofa can be damaged while being lifted up and down the lorry, while entering the lift and scrapping the sides of the corridor wall etc...etc, get the picture?

Hi Skylimit1979

In order to ensure your satisfaction, I will arrange to bring the sofa back to rectify it. I hope that this will be seen as goodwill on our part. Of course like what dave says there are risks during transport but its our duty to ensure your sofa will be transport from point A to B unscathed. May I know when is the best date for us to bring it back? The duration will be about 7 days before we can return you the sofa. Please advise. Thank you

I do agree with Dave that there will be risk but as u mentioned I believe EL will take good care of my sofa. A question to ask, as this is a L shape sofa, do you guy dismantle it into 2 portion (the L portion and the 2 seated portion) and just bring back the 2 seated portion (where the problem is)?

This Saturday morning will be a good time, pls advise the timing?

I do appreciate the effort and service that EL has offer to me, I do hope that my sofa will return in good condition. Last of all, I've receive the call from EL today to deliver the FOC item. Thanks for your follow up.

Hi skylimit1979

We will only bring back the portion that we need to rectify, I cannot promise you that this Saturday will be a good day for us but I will try. My guys will call you sometime these two days to confirm the timing. I am glad that you had recieved your leather kit. What we will do is to stitch back the thread that was loose. I hope you will be satisfied after that. Thank you.

Thanks for the help. Will wait for the call from your colleague. By the way, have you send out my warranty card?
