The entrance is ok la. Not as long as you make it out to be in your pictures :P Wish I had something so OTT and dramatic though.

Basically, I plan to put the blue turkish chandelier in the walkway so it adds some colour and a slight blue glow / tinge to the area.

For the wall, my ID is thinking of doing up a feature wall with a colour transition from a blue / green with a mixture of 5 different paint colours.

I'm thinking of going a little less with the colour, maybe having a light grey to a cool celadon green transition using a more textured paint effect or application.

I think the combination of texture, colours and lightings for the walkway will be pretty cool - can't wait for my ID to speck it out.

Here's some idea of what kind of lamps I would like - something blueish and cool without too many light or shadow patterns.

Overall idea of Turkish lamp illumination effect that I want:

turkishlamp.jpg

Standard-sized Turkish lamp chandelier:

turkishlamp3.jpg

Slightly more dramatic chandelier:

turkishlamp4.jpg

I just hope it doesn't turn out too Arabic looking - I want a cool, rustic yet slightly textured feel.

Mmm... I like the long entrance... the drama queen in me loves a dramatic entrance passage way with cool lighting... can't quite find what I'm visualising but something like:

Like the kind you find in hip hotels...

What were you planning to do with the entrance/passageway?

I think I'm having a little trouble reconciliating prices of what I like vs what I can actually afford. :bangwall:

My ID says I have good taste; I wish he said that before we got quotations of the things we'd like to do! Haha

I think realistically, we're going to have to be really creative and resourceful to cut costs on the reno.

Also, the furniture we want might have to take a back seat - we might either buy cheaper alternatives or pick out pieces gradually.

Pretty sad to have to make so many sacrifices; but I hope I can pull this off with the help of my ID. Wish me luck! :good:

well i think that the lamp might totally crash with your modern clean cut designer furniture that you like in the living room and there will be no flow within each room , the lamp will get too much attention or what is that lamp doing here effect just my 2cent view

U want GHOST chair ... TRY robinson @ orchard LEVEL 5 next to PARTY shop..

The Kartell outlet (by Space) at Centrepoint has closed for some time. If you want to get Kartell, go down to LifeStorey (@Great World City) this weekend before they close for renovations - think 30% off. Not sure how much Space (@bencoolen street) will quote.

I went thru this stage as well... I had a thing for nice wooden chairs that costs a bomb... and I also know that replicas are easily available at a fraction of the originals' price. But after talking to some friends, I decided to bite the bullet and stick to getting originals (and not replicas). So you won't see any nice wooden chairs at my place.

My friend's advice is that the fake chairs don't last (e.g. fake Ghost chairs crack easily), look fake (can tell from the finishing e.g the studs on the butterfly stool and the plastic sheen) and infringe on intellectual property (my IDs' pet peeve, since they are in the creative industry too). Plus I think since I won't carry fake designer bags, then I shouldn't use fake furniture. :)

Good luck with your furniture search! Many more months to sniff out good bargains, so don't fret.

I can see where Rayflox is coming from. I've a bit of trouble imagining how it'll go together... a bit of a disconnect, plus the wall paint too... But end of the day it's your place so just do what makes you happy ya? :yamseng:

i think you got a bit sidetrack by that lamp , cuz now u hv to decide really what kind of look u wanna for your place , interior decor is not just putting furniture and decor that you like together is about the inspiration and theme u get from one piece of furniture , can be a mirror , a vase or a lamp , think carefully and look at all the thing u saw and find one thing that you die die also must have and then from there slowly get the theme and look together that match with that piece of furniture or decor. The furniture you like is very mid century and the lamp u like is very tuscany.

Not a big fan of the Ghost chair actually - I think it's super over-used already.

I don't mind getting slightly better quality replicas for chair - I'm thinking Lush Lush and Motto, but if I can source them out from Bangkok cheaper even better!

At least I know the build quality is better than those really cheap and low-quality China / etc reproductions.

I'm also not extremely keen on "recognizable" designer pieces eg, Eames chairs etc.

I like more understated pieces; doesn't matter if they're "designer" or not.

In fact if possible I'll try to find nice original current pieces which won't burn a big hole in my wallet.

Sadly, there's not that much in-between nice furniture; everything is either super exclusive and expensive, or cheaper but low quality / unattrative design.

I still think the Turkish lamps will go ok. It just takes a little bit of imagination. Basically, imagine a wall texture like this (taken from Aabs Hjem's blog without permission :P):

P9056631.jpg

The turkish lamp will cast a blue-ish sort of hue against the texture / grain of the feature wall. It's slightly industrial, but a little whimsical and whatever, for the lack of a better description :P

The wall paint might go in place of cement screed / stucco, but I'll leave my ID to decide on that.

I really like the idea of a turkish lamp - they're one of the prettiest decorative lighting around. Just not a big fan of the Arco Flos lamps, Poulsen pieces, Artichoke lamp that I see everywhere else (no disrespect to anyone else who owns them). I just don't like the idea of having the same pieces or look that everyone else has.

Do check out La Salsa at Dempsey Hill - really nice use of Turkish lamps, admittedly their theme is slightly different though.

Honestly, it's a little hard for me to explain my idea in words or using other pictures. Might just be best if I could get a 3D visualization from my ID. :sport-smiley-003:

Ok here's a 3D of a turkish lamp on a cement-screed effect wall - rendering courtesy of gaikusean. Thanks gaikusean if you're reading this! You rock!! :sport-smiley-003:

Hallway.jpg

With a more bigger and slightly more dramatic Turkish chandelier lamp, this could turn out really really nice.

I might use brighter bulbs so the lighting effect spills onto the wall as well. Thanks again gaikusean! :yamseng:

Am I the only one who thinks this looks nice? :furious:

no...the lamp looks beautiful to me at least

but add on the combination of the furnishing beneath + well-matched colours ...well it already costs me ten mins' of hard glance liao (believed it or not) :dribble:

m mesmerised by its overall beauty  , lamps (both) inclusive :good:

cheers!

No worries :) I'm just a little concerned that a larger Turkish lamp might overwhelm the space. Maybe try two pendant ones instead?

If you and your wife like the design, who cares what others think? You guys are the ones who are staying in the apartment, most important thing is that you like the design, not the IDs, and definitely not us. :)

Hi bro, I was at Arab Street and thought of you when I saw all these lamps at Sufi's Corner. Actually snapped some pics for u but then realised that can be found online too:
