My 5 Room Bukit Merah Flat T-Blog

Recommended Posts

Hmmm I think I'll probably get them to ship over the furniture (not a containerload though), and I'll try to borrow my contractors lorry to collect if possible.

Maybe pay a small token fee if they're agreeable....

The quote does not include delivery from port to warehouse.... if you shipping on a FCL (Full Container Load), do note that you need to include unstuffing cost too.

Hi Industrial,

Tuba is extremely cluttered, but so are a lot of the shops there. I think Tuba doesn't really have too much, but do check out Papaya (also owned by the owner of Tuba).

It's a massive 3 or 4 storey warehouse with all sorts of good stuff. But need a good 1-2 hours to sieve through. Some of it is not for sale too.

Hawaii Five-O is a pretty small and cluttered place too, but Khun Satit is a very very nice guy. Offered to go out and buy us drinks.

His selection is also pretty nice, prices a little little ex though. Will post more pics now :)

Hi Timothy, thanks for the BKK updates! Glad to know that there was no flood when you were there.

Tuba seems very cluttered leh. Heard a lot about Hawaii Five-O. We will be going next month and hope we will manage to find some nice pieces too.

Can't wait to see more pictures.

Sorry for the double post. Clicked the back button and thought I didn't reply yet.

Anyway here's more pics! We checked out this little outdoor enclave at Tuba, and discovered....

Outdoor "courtyard" area with nice overhanging banyan roots:

View from the entrance:

Very nice seating area (love the L-shaped sofa and coffee table):

And......an AWESOME RETRO GIANT SEIKO WALL CLOCK!!

Close-up:

It's pretty magnificent... but pity I couldn't possibly carry it back.

Was going for about $800 SGD if I remember correctly. Not sure if it is working too.

Would be an awesome collection to almost any wall. A little bit wasted.

Also check out Papaya. Monster warehouse with tons of cool thing.

Papaya is so cool that even the Green Lantern, Batman, The Flash and Spiderman hang out here:

Another nice retro sofa:

Really love the purple on this sofa.Pity it's obscured:

Thought this was quite cute, but a little too common so didn't buy in the end:

Another nice clock I like (the orange hands are much nicer in real life):

Pity this wasn't on sale though. Sigh. In the end we only managed to confirm (more or less) our dining chairs and stools.

Also managed to pick up a nice sunburst style mirror from this vintage market called Rod Fai Market near Chatuchak.

Hi tim!

Looks like you had a great time in BKK! Glad the weather held up for ya!

for the spray paint, you can use nippon Pylox. and Nope, there's no need for a base colour.

Wow... this is really good stuff! Thanks!

Rust retarded and retarded rust and rusting retardant all sounds **** funny to me... But it's just me being stupid :sport-smiley-004:

Do I need a base colour before (eg.white) I paint it over with the fuschia paint? And is there any particular kind of paint I should be using?

Hey frigginfuschia!

Yeah pretty glad the weather held up well. I heard it just got worse with northern parts of Bangkok starting to flood.

Good timing for me I guess. Ok will go check out Nippon Pylox. Just spray and that's all right? Sorry very noob at this :P

Just sandpapered and wire brushed the whole lamp until it's pretty clean today.

Ok - here comes the fun part, the stuff we bought from BKK.

Retro-looking sunburst style round mirror:

This was love at first sight for the GF and me. We were trawling through the whole of Chatuchak market etc and ended up at Rod Fai market, where we went through shop after shop of old but not-very-nice stuff.

Was walking through the rain and getting grumpy and tired until we saw this gem. Liked how the texture was a little faux rusted-looking and textured. Bargained and bought it for about $150, and hand carried it on board the plane.

Put it in oversized luggage where they slapped it with "fragile" stickers - it weighs 6.6kg!

Classic wooden dining chair:

SAM_9035.jpg

Really like the simplicity and timelessness of this piece. Looks a little like a really old skool rocking chair, and the pieces at the back remind me a bit of the peacock chair I like.

Tall dining stools:

SAM_9033.jpg

Were pretty thrilled to find matching stools (although the colour is a little bit off). Might have to trim 9cm off the legs for it to fit our tall counter. Hope it doesn't look too stumpy.

Hello folks! How are you all doing? Again, sorry for the lack of updates.

Right now everything is proceeding a little slow; am a little disappointed by the lack of progress.

Nevertheless; some verbal updates:

1. Toilets (both master and guest) are fully tiled up

2. Floor tiles (extended from the hall to the kitchen) are also almost completed

3. Exposed walls have all been plastered

4. False ceiling for hall has also been completed

5. Wall tiles for kitchen also done

We're still waiting for:

1. Peranakan tiles to be laid on the entrance walkway

2. MBR floor (laminate flooring) to be laid

3. Carpentry works to be finalized - laminates already chosen'

4. Sealant to be applied for walls

5. Veneers to be chosen for wooden cabinets / benches

I'll try to avoid posting pics of the reno, as that really isn't too interesting.

It's like empty concrete walls, and incomplete stuff; not really very impressive.

Will show pics only after everything is really up and ready for "photoshoot".

At least got a little suspense. Haha
