adidaem 6 Report post Posted April 2, 2012 Woah, i went to the blog you recommended. Realised i have been staring at its windows many times these few months. (because of its long renovation, i wonder if it never ends)Its just right @ my current block, one level below my floor.Such a wonderful floorplan, spacious kitchen and master bedroom.Such a small world! Yeah I think her reno took a while but she should have moved in recently. It's a good layout I think, with decent sized rooms n a useful yard. M waiting for her to share her move in pics. adidaem 6 Report post Posted April 2, 2012 adidaem,Thank you very much for the head up. Have to kick both myself and SO to start our purchases now. We will check out the Toto brand too!Still not very familiar with uploading pic, will upload my floorplan once I figure it out. Our MBR facing corridor is less noisy compared to the other side which face the expressway. Although it is still a good distance but can still hear the fast car moving. The previous owner had already turn the wash area into toilet so pipes are all done up. It is really very small so I guess we will be using the upstair one more often. Btw, the previous owner hacked both toilets upstair to form a big bathroom.T-blog.... "akang datang", hope to start one when the reno starts.Have fun shopping. Do get a feel of the quality/build before going ahead with your buys. Think you get a better feel after going to 10 stores or so. Oh where is ur place located? Yeah, I can't take expressway noise too. Sometimes I go past apartments that are really close to the expway and wonder how they can take the sound? Or it's constant air-conditioning cos windows are closed? Downstairs more for guests lar. I don't like people to use my loo so having a guest loo is good for me. Do you plan to keep the big bathroom? Good suggestion on the food storage next to oven. Your blog recommendation gives a very good detailed drawing, very informative. Currently, my utensils, appliances, and kitchenware are all over the place in the kitchen, some at the top cabinet, some under the sink!! very messy! Need to have proper planning for my new kitchen. Same goes for my walk-in wardrobe.Yes, her blog is quite informative, I like. Will you be converting an entire room to a WIW? Will be very big if you do that huh? Already planned to go Internal affair tomorrow to have a look. Our house is located near to a reservoir in the east... Heeeheeee... Quite obvious where right! The noise from the expressway is quite alright, we are not on the high floor and there's a small park and canal that separate us, so it's not that bad. I guess the tall trees help to reduce the noise too.. No air con on living room and children's room, so window will be wide wide open. Still deciding whether to install it or not. Yes downstairs toilet will be for guest and helper... We are keeping the big bathroom, this was one of the reason we got this unit. Yes, her blog is quite informative, I like. Will you be converting an entire room to a WIW? Will be very big if you do that huh? Her blog already provided me with a rough concept of how I'm going to plan my kitchen drawer. Thanks to Wordsworth! Will not be an entire room WIW but it will be WICW! Walk In Corrider Wardrobe. Used to have a half a room wardrobe but I now with growing family member, cannot afford that kind of space. So just being practical and still keeping the open wardrobe concept... A WICW! A WICW!I like Interior Affairs - rem to set aside some time to play with the display kitchens to get an idea of what you want your kitchen to be like. If you are particular like me, maybe also good to get a feel of the worktop height and measure to see how high (or low) you want to customize the kitchen height to. The toilets are nice too... btw, my hubby's German colleagues say that Grohe is better than Hansgrohe. No explanation why tho. I think Kohler is not bad too. But obviously since I got Grohe, I like Grohe lar. Yeah, thanks quite obvious where. Oh oki, I'll be interested to see where the maid's room will be created. Why no aircon? Is your new place cooling? They can tell you how cooling/windy my place is. But altho I don't use ac often, I still think it's good to install for 'emergency hot days'. Btw did you guys ask them to get roller shutters for the balcony? Have you signed the contract? When will they show you their plans/drawings?

When will they show you their plans/drawings?Yeah, I heard from them about your precise kitchen height, heee heee.. it makes sense, I will go measure my current kitchen height and make it slightly higher. I found myself bending a little when washing the dishes. Grohe having 50% Promotion, shall see what I can grab.No maid's room, if only ours is an EM! She will be sharing a space with the children. But I guess she will have the whole room by herself since the children love to squeeze with us.No aircon?? Reason: The previous owner didn't have it, and they lived without it for 10yrs. Its very windy when we are there, but not too sure in the future when those condos are up. Maybe we can run a 2nd compressor for both living and children's room, got to seek HDB approval. Conclusion is WE HATE TRUCKING, especially exposed trucking, so wiser to just install it for "emergency hot days".No need roller shutter, the previous owner build a roof over it already. The 1st draft of the layout is out already, now is the selection of contractors... all of them quoted way above our budget, one of them I feel is ridiculously inflated. So either we modified our design or I get another contractor recommended by my friend for his quotation. Shall see when we next make our IDs.

E.g. if you want counter-top sink, you gotta get the longer taps. I like what kirinshibori shared re: counter height. Simple rule of thumb to remember too: height/2 + 5 cm. The counter height thing must have left a 'deep' impression on them... they even told the Dwell Asia interviewer that... So bad... what else did they tell u about me/us? I think advice on how to select the correct kitchen counter height has been beaten to death in this forum, but it doesn't hurt to have another picture to illustrate the idea. No maid's room, if only ours is an EM! She will be sharing a space with the children. But I guess she will have the whole room by herself since the children love to squeeze with us.No aircon?? E.g. my 9 yo niece told me she wished she has her own room vs sharing with her bro. Plus good for the maid to have some private space (better sanity). Actually, my place also don't usually need ac... BUT, there are always days when you need ac. Yeah, ac is an infrastructure thing that is hard to fix once reno is over. Better to decide now so that they can hide the ac pipes nicely. They (plus main contractor & ac contractor) did a good job on my ac stuff too. Just be careful about variation orders. Contractors can omit stuff and then add on as variation order, some contractors are dishonest that way. For the contractor I used, I think they worked together before so he knows how particular/difficult M+A's designs can be to execute. adidaem,My T-blog is finally up! Do you guys want your place to appear in a magazine too? Rem to get nice furniture ya? Better to get the aircon confirmation ASAP. Hdb does take a while to come back with approvals that could delay your reno.
