Hi,

May I know which contractor did you engage?

You can find the link to my ID in my signature. The contractor my ID engaged for my project prefers not to be named.

Found out who the contractor from them already. Would you recommend them?

And which solid countertop did you get? How is it so far? Ours existing place solid top full of watermark and scratches, so I'm abit skeptical now for my new place. I am thinking of granite but SO and IDs not so keen.

A famous hotelier n his family uses the contractor, so yea, I would. Anyway HK is architect trained and an ID in his own projects. They also did my place in 8 weeks which most other IDs said was impossible.

I accept tat solid top will get scratches so just learn to ignore lor. White not so obvious unlike darker colours. Granite has lines? Anyway stick to what you want, it's ur home and u shd decide what u r most comfy with. Discuss with ur SO of course. R engaging M+A? They lean towards the artistic so u hv to assess if you can live with the design. Lemme know if they tell u horror stories abt me. :)

Where is ur place? Is it also an EM or EA?

Thanks for your feedback. I am more assured now. I am giving them even shorter timeline, but till now Reno not started yet. I'm going to become a kan Cheong spider already. In 1mth time, I have to moved out from my place.

My SO is also in the design industry, so I'm dealing with 3 artistic persons, I'm the one who is more practical, so I think I'm the spoiler... Hahhaa..

Mine is maisonette but not EM. Without an additional room below and smaller balcony.

Erm, how extensive is your reno? Haven't heard of any less than 6 weeks for maisonettes. Possible if no wet works or extensive hacking but your place shd be over 20 years old right? Plus getting approval from HDB can take forever.

Ya, do think of practical living. After all you are the one who will have to live with any inconvenience.

Is the layout like this?

Yes that's the floor plan, and we haven sent in hdb approval yet. I think reasonably two months. Very stress now, have to solve the accommodation problem.

I see. Best if you can give them a bit more time for doing up defects. Less hassle n worry if your stuff are not in the house.

Are you going for the minimalist look too? GSS coming so enjoy the shopping. Grohe currently on sale btw.

Where's the sales! Where's the sales!?

Have started bits of shopping but don't dare to buy yet. Must wait till the final design concept and color scheme before making purchase. I guess I can wait for GSS then i will 'chiong & grab'!

My SO gave instruction to the IDs to design out of ordinary, so our layout will be really different. Both of us prefer dark colors so minimalist will be out.

By the way, can share a little bit more on your kitchen cabinet configuration?

Interior Affairs and a few other places. You can refer to the ads in the papers for the list of stores. Do check the papers often for sales and offers. Good items typically go fast (early bird gets the worm...). So far I know Air Division, Dream are having sales. XZQT also has sales pretty constantly. For bathroom they like Toto btw.

Sounds interesting. Mind sharing what your layout will be like? If I have your floor plan, I'll definitely switch the MBR location cos it's better that it's not facing the corridor cos of the noise. Does the wash area have a toilet bowl or can it be converted to a proper toilet? I'm guessing that they are sticky about floor plans so a description would do. Do u plan to start your own blog?

You can be a dark minimalist lar. White does not equate minimalist really.

My kitchen is just drawers at the counter and shelves for the rest. Pretty boring. If you need some ideas, I'll recommend this blog: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:dBUVKfELeYgJ:www.renotalk.com/Forum/tabid/84/aff/23/aft/183463/afv/topic/Default.aspx+soho+in+the+east&cd=8&hl=en&ct=clnk&client=safari

But I'll suggest not placing the wire rack or any food storage areas next to the oven cos of residual heat that'll spoil the food.

Woah, i went to the blog you recommended.

Realised i have been staring at its windows many times these few months.

(because of its long renovation, i wonder if it never ends)

Its just right @ my current block, one level below my floor.

Such a wonderful floorplan, spacious kitchen and master bedroom.

adidaem,

Thank you very much for the head up. Have to kick both myself and SO to start our purchases now. We will check out the Toto brand too!

Still not very familiar with uploading pic, will upload my floorplan once I figure it out. Our MBR facing corridor is less noisy compared to the other side which face the expressway. Although it is still a good distance but can still hear the fast car moving.

The previous owner had already turn the wash area into toilet so pipes are all done up. It is really very small so I guess we will be using the upstair one more often. Btw, the previous owner hacked both toilets upstair to form a big bathroom.

T-blog.... "akang datang", hope to start one when the reno starts.

Good suggestion on the food storage next to oven. Your blog recommendation gives a very good detailed drawing, very informative. Currently, my utensils, appliances, and kitchenware are all over the place in the kitchen, some at the top cabinet, some under the sink!! very messy! Need to have proper planning for my new kitchen. Same goes for my walk-in wardrobe.
