Following a tradition brought from the last election, the Worker’s Party got supporters to recite the National Pledge after party chief Low Thia Khiang said his closing statements for his rally speech. WP candidate Pritam Singh led the 30,000-strong party faithful to recite the pledge.

Everyone said the words with gusto and pride, the atmosphere—electric. Finance executive Robin Chan says: “It was the most poignant and moving moment I’ve ever experienced. I’ve never seen such nationalistic pride in Singaporeans until tonight.”

For the candidates and their supporters, the journey to Aljunied would define the party for the coming few years, as the party embarked on their final push.
