What Happen To My Parquet Flooring

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Recently we bought a 3 rooms HDB with parquet flooring.

We decided to ask contractor in to do parquet polishing to remove the scratches.

The contracotor quoted us at SGD850 for the polishing work.

Yesterday we went to see the house after the polishing work done.

My floor become dull and lifeless, although we can see the sanding was done.

The previous floor was shine even though having some minor scratches.

We questioned the contractor and he replied if want shine need to add another coating, which will incur another cost of SGD290.

We are really upset for it.

The floor lost its original shine, really disappointed for the work done.

What's wrong with the work? Is this reasonable?

the loss of shine is probably because your contractor used a 'matt' finish.

'matt' finishes are the defacto standard in the market nowadays. if i were to look from your contractor's perspective, it is reasonable for him to assume that you would like it since almost all homeowners like it.

however the reverse is also true... why didnt your contractor confirm with you which type of finish you like before applying?

i would say both sides have to bear some responsibility.

290 is on the high side, however you shouldnt expect the contractor to revarnish for free (because what he handed over is not technically a defective floor) too because he needs to make a living.

a negotiation to reach a middle ground would be nice.

Agree with nimm12, anyway glossy parquet looks like plastic, loss all the natural sense...:)

Can try doing semi-gloss. But now matt finish is common

i did semi gloss for mine via the building services of hdb cause i scare matt will pose problem for me in the end esp cause of the water issue ..

so i opted for semi gloss finish ..
