Recommended Posts

I placed a clock in the living room wall and it is directly facing the passageway leading to the bedrooms. Is this a no no is terms of feng shui?

Any advice is appreciated.

Typically, the rule is to place the clock such that it could be conveniently viewed by people staying in the house.

In my dad's previous flat, he placed the clock directly above the entrance to the kitchen! It was the most convenient location.

And a neighbour who has his flat audited every single year, installed a giantic clock right on the wall facing the main door! With a Guan-Di deity statue directly below it - that was errrr, very eye catching. I couldn't help but emphasize & reiterate myself once again as the clock was really HUGE! A designer piece.

Setting fengshui aside in such a case, I actually thought that this wasn't the best place for positioning a clock. The clock seems to be more for anybody standing outside their home, not for those living in the flat.

I would have wanted to seek their permission to take a photo of this "fengshui" arrangement if not for the guandi that they place below the giant clock. And several months ago, they've got their gate chained up, with 2 huge padlocks & red paint splashed over their doors. Not once but several times.

In my opinion I think the best location will be that it is easy to see because this the function of a clock. If fs ask u to put clock in your storeroom do u think it is feasible?

Erh, what about someone give you a clock as housewarming present? Actually, my husband and me got a shock from this. We moved in to a rented place and I got this Chinese Indonesian couple gave me this type of gift. They are free thinker and don't believe in feng shui. Anyway, my husband and me keep the clock inside storeroom. I don't know how to tell them that I don't want this type of gifts...sighs...

Hi emobebe,

I think most chinese are aware of such customs if they r brought up in Asia. However, if that Indonesian Chinese couple's motivation behind this gift is pure & well-intended, there shouldn't be any issues. Even if otherwise, just accept it graciously as u have done so. But if U would want to, U could jux tell them casually that it's taboo because it meant sending the deceased off during a funeral.

Some companies used to reward their longer-serving staff with very branded clocks. Some European bosses used to give this type of branded clocks & watches to their secretaries & staff. And during housewarming too!

Maybe U could consider donating this clock to charity.

Giving clock = "送终" pronounciation in Cantonese. "送终" = send to last point of life. Such act can't be considered as a "custom" but related to "意头“. "Superstitious" ppls care much about "意头". "意头" has nothing to do with feng shui, but related to one's mentality. I'm a Teochew, wife's godmother( who brought wife up since wife a todler) is a typical cantonese. I don't mind ppls give me clocks.

Next, not a good practice to hang objects on wall where ppls can pass through/under. Same applies to no(best not to) hanging objects on top of bedhead. Simply ones don't know when it will "accidentally" drop down. Same for ceiling lighting/fans, wall mounted objects etc, as less as possible if possible to ensure safefty. These are hidden and potential "dangers". Feng shui deals with dangers.

During house audit, fsms should have stressed these instead of what directions, water, fire, salt lah, etc, tio bo?

Wah, so many replies from here. I forgot to check. Well, I still keep that clock inside my storeroom. My husband just told me it is a designer clock. They brought from US back here. I think I should thank them rather than doubting whether it will bring any harm to my family.

Cheers:) Emobebe

Then, I didn't think they mean harm.

Designer clock wor... it should be costly.

Some clocks with those swarovski crystals embedded & lined up into a merry-go-round type of mechanism, can easily cost u $100+, all the way to thousands. So if the recepient dumped it into a bin then it's a pity. But to give it away for the charity, at least it's for a good cause :)
