Partial Renovation Due To Tight Budget

Recommended Posts

Getting my keys next month and need some advise :D

A friend said I should get a few IDs or contractors to view my new home at the same time, is this advisable? Scare they will think I'm not sincere to engage their services and in return don't wanna do my business.. :bangwall:

I intend to keep the whole flooring as they are all still nice and should look great after polishing. Will this decision impede the reno process in any way? Also due to very limited resources i.e. $$$ :jail:, my mum will be able to get her painter friend to paint the whole flat. How should it be done if I were to engage an Id or contractor only or the below:

- Hack storeroom and remove current kitchen cabinet - then the empty floor space without current tiles one how ah?

- Full kitchen cabinet with island

- 2 bath rooms which have to be fully done and change one of the squat one to sitted one (except for the floorings)

- wardrobes for 3 bedrooms

- partition outside mbr toilet

- all doors, windows and grills

I may have left out some nitty-gritty items and pardon me for the layman language as I'm not good with all those "reno jargon" :D

:) Hope to get some insights here and if anyone and roughly calculate the costs for me, would really appreciate it.

Thanks heaps! :dancingqueen:

How much is the painter charging for the work and material?

Why are you hacking the storeroom away? Unless you need the space better to keep it so you can save on the tiling up the space, might not be able to get the same tile design/colour. Should you sell the flat later might put away some buyers as most folks do need a storeroom.

Wardrobes you can purchase ready built instead of custom to save costs. These can be replaced later when you have the cash.

What's your budget? I think it best to spend you cash first on stuff that requires hacking etc. Keep the stuff that can be done later when you have the cash is better. Then you won't have to compromise on quality and later spend more to maintain/repair/replace.

Thanks for your advise, hAPPy :)

It defintely makes sense to keep the storeroom.. others also advise me to keep.

My budget very low so agree with you that we should concentrate on staff that needs hacking and things that need to be done first like toilet and kitchen cabinet... The rest maybe will buy lor...

Really thank you for the reply :)

miap, if you plan to keep the living hall floor. Don't hack the store room.

Hack - $$

replace the wall floor $$

If you on budget, do those in-need first.

- 2 bath rooms which have to be fully done and change one of the squat one to sitted one (except for the floorings)

I don't quite understand what you mean by except the flooring?

U want to change 1 squat to sitted w/o changing the flooring, is that what you mean?

Yes Yes! But your question alerted me.. haha! If change the wc sure will affect the tiles one hor...

Then would probably need to do the tiles... cus staying with 2 senior citizens, not good if they have to use the squat one...

Haiz.. this reno thing is kinda stressing me out!!!

ya. Change WC , confirm will affect the tiles.

Don't save of this part. If not, later your lower floor neighbor complain ceiling leak. Then you need to re-do the toilet floor again.

What you can do is,

If the wall still ok. Just change the floor will do.

I also do my reno on budget. Only change or hack thing we need to change.

For the master bedroom toilet. I only change the sitting WC as I don't like to use 2nd hand toilet bowl. Change the mirror, etc

For common toilet, change the squating to seating type. Change the basin, mirror, heater.

Reno is stress but after that. You will enjoy the fruit of your stress.

Nothing is better than your own home. :)
