What Type Of Led Lights Is Suitable?

Hi folks,

I'm feeling terribly lost... <img src="http://www.renotalk.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Heard of LED lights before but have never had any at home; only saw them being used in showrooms (LED strips) or signages.

I need to install LED lights at 2 distinctive locations on the ceiling of my HDB flat, turned them on 24 by 7. However, I had only gone down to a lighting shop near Lucky Khoon @ Joo Chiat to take a look.

A 3-watt LED spot-light (for ceiling) which we felt that were suitable in lighting up those 2 spots, was quoted as $298 each. That was really steep!

The staff there claimed that their product was made in Taiwan. But warranty was only 1 year.

When we tried to obtain the best price from the staff, she said that she risk losing her job if she asked her boss & we decided not to go ahead with the purchase after the discount was given. So we thanked her & walked out of the shop.

Could anybody be as kind to enlighten me on what's really recommended for our requirements? Are all LED ceiling lights that consume relatively lower watts so expensive?

thanks for recommending but I have already bought OptiLED's 2-watt "ping pong" bulb, for $38 from CITILIGHTS LLP & doing well by it as it serves well for my fengshui requirements

Hi guys,

I have finally bought my LED E27 holder type of LED bulb. From Julian at Citilights, Jalan Besar.

He had been very helpful & has offered us valuable advice on what is suitable when we shared with him on our needs. And didn't want us to spend the extra $.

We finally settled on Optied's 2-watt "ping-pong" bulb at $38. With 3 years warranty on bulb failure. So since there is such a long span of warranty, then it goes to show that the quality is good & the possibility of failure is very low.

When I have the time, I would upload photos of the bulb & how it looked like on my E27 holder. But for those of u who have designer homes, u'll see our fixtures as wierd & awful

Dear all,

I'm new to this forum.

I have saw various posts.

LED come with MR16, GU10, PAR30 & PAR38.

MR16 is usng two pin type and socket base is GU5.3.

MR16 is driving at 12Vdc therefore it will need a LED driver.

In layman term is called transformer.

GU10, PAR30 & PAR38 does not requred any transformer due to direct AC.

It's true that Optiled's quality is good but we didn't get from the manufacturer directly as we're quite turned off by the lack of service.

At least this was the case for us. A Mr Heng, supposedly the marketing or sales person for Optiled, seemed enthusiastic initially and told me to email him our requirements, and relevant photographs of our home for references.

(They were located in Jurong whereas I was putting up in Pasir Ris; and do not drive.)

After emailing, I didn't hear from this Heng guy. After a few days later, I called him & he told me to give him time to study our requirements; he then hung up. Well, he came across as disinterested after we emailed him photos of our home.

So, fine. I waited again & as expected, we didn't hear from him.

I called Optiled's office & received email informing me of a few authorised dealers. 2 of them told me that LED lights wouldn't work for us since we do not have false ceiling! And tried selling me other brands of lightings...

When I finally got to buy OptiLED's bulbs from Julian at Citilights, I was bought over not jux by the product but by his ability to size up what would fulfill our requirements. All said & done in a matter of minutes after meeting up with Julian from Citilights.

So for those of u who wants to buy from the manufacturer directly, please know what u r paying for.

I think I will still get OptiLED's products becox most of the items come with a 3 year warranty. Meaning that if there is a bulb failure within that 3 years, with effect from the date of the receipt given at the point of purchase, the distributor will honour an implied agreement for a 1-to-1 exchange.

I would perceive this as a transaction of great savings.

We must understand what is the reason of selling at the price given?

Maybe the LED allow you to dim?

Or you got space constrian, like example new generation of HDB the ceiling is very low and could not afford 4 to 6 inch of ceiling.

Some LED downlight is just 1 and half inch in terms of height.

my house have dimmable led mr16....

it's as good as the normal halogen bulb

I am also using strip led for my hall's ceiling cove and kitchen...

my hall's ceiling not bright because i have my ceiling painted grey but my kitchen's super bright....

Hi folks,

I forgot to update how the OptiLED 2-watt "ping-pong" bulb looks like. Here comes the photos...

Since it's a fengshui requirement for the area to be lighted up 24 by 7, this is how it looks like after we mount it on an E27 holder.

We would have preferred to have an E27 holder without the "saucer" casting a shadow over the lighting from the "ping-pong" bulb, we had to settle for it becox we weren't able to obtain a substitute for this conventional holder.

And true to what Julian from Citilights have advised during our purchase, we didn't see any significant increase in our PUB bills! That's even after the light was installed & turned on for 24 hours a day without turning it off.

That was really awesome!

p/s: we'll try to upload a photo of how the lighting effect for this OptiLED 2-watt bulb is like after we have painted our flat.
