Although if you look closely, some of the tiles are not cut to the same size. I wonder if it is because they are at the corner and will be covered by the tiles of the adjoining wall...oh i also got the same kitchen wall tiles as yours!! Aside from the usual chatuchak we discovered that BKK is teeming with affordable furniture, good design and excellent service! We were really impressed with the variety, prices and most of all, classic thai hospitality. I guess they were amused by the Singaporean couple who spoke really bad thai and silly grins. rottenramone 1 Report post Posted August 8, 2011 first stop we went to was to Hawaii 5-0 at Thonglor. It's less of a showroom, more of a storeroom. Something like the 2nd hand section of Lorgan's. But the selection and pieces were quite outta this world. If you're a fan of kooky pencil leg furniture or have an afro from the 70s, Hawaii 5-0 would probably be the place to be. The owner, (Khun) Mr Satit, loves his stuff and many of his pieces are only for display and not on sale. He explains that he's a collector first then runs his business from there. What he can do is ask the factory to reproduce his current collection. Some SG retailers, like 1000 tales, are his clients. When we asked him on the lack of eames' stuff, he pooh-poohed the eameses, saying that they were too proper. here's some pics of the shop. its old and dusty, so wear a face mask.i only took a few pictures as there was not enough walking spacethere were some pretty good furniture shops located around the area too. tuba furniture, joe's beautiful objects and scandinavian design. But we spent a good period chatting with Satit and his hobbies and by the time we came out, many shops were closed. the furniture shops usually close by 6 pm, so good to take note. rottenramone 1 Report post Posted August 8, 2011 (edited) other place we went to was boonthavorn. it's like the carrefour of home furnishings, and you can get your floor tiles, laminates, cement, wood, taps, everything all at one place. prices are definitely much better than SG. check out the price for the grohe bauline series:THB$1500 is roughly SGD$60. But please note that the made in germany prices do not differ much from SG.... before the in-store discount. we saw a minta grohe kitchen mixer for a really attractive price, but settled for the eurosmart series instead, also at a good price. Got a few Ledino Philips lights too. The only major stumbling block is the language problem. hardly anyone in there speaks english but if u make the effort to speak in their language, they will go all out to help you out. we were really touched when they took effort in trying to understand us, helping us with our purchase decisions, and even going to the main road to call a taxi for us in the rain. thai hospitality beats the ones in balestier anytime.boontharvon has many branches, the one closest to the city is located between sutthisan and ratchadaphisek stations. walking distance too. He knows of the local retro shops like A Thousand Tales and Logans and shared his opinions of these shops with us, giving us an insider's view to some of these retro furnishing companies.
