Join the crazy race - head so hurt and haven't been sleeping properly. Sigh. I thought planning for our home would be such an exciting journey - it just seems stressful and tough all the time.

Keep breathing okay! And take baby steps :) People here are really very helpful so you're definitely not alone :)

I can't find the thread for TV in the "Electronics & Electricals"..so strange.

I need help on the size of TV, i shd be getting. From the floorplan the distance between 2walls will be "3275". The Wall itself it "2750".

Btw,my ID quote me a 6ft Feature Wall. My concerns is not to strain the eyes and not making the living room become smaller.

It 42" too small or 47" too big?

Hi Cutie Cat

My TV wall in my new living room to the opposite wall is 4.7 meters. I bought a 47" LED. In my current bedroom, its probably 3.7 meters and I am using a 42" LCD. It sure looked big when I first put it in, but after a while I am used to it and I like the size. If budget allowed, I would have bought a 55" or 60" for my living area. There are many theories on what size is appropriate which you can google online. Speaking from personal experience, 42" is very ample, but if budget allows go for the 47".

Btw, I visited someone's home whose bedroom is small and is using a projector! Its definitely about 80" of viewing pleasure! Buy whatever that tickles your fancy, go for it!

One thing to note, your TV is just next to your window. Reflection is going to be a problem. You might have to use LED or LCD. WIth plasmas, you have to close your curtains in the daytime to watch.

Heya CutieCat,

Here's the part about the distance to TV from the thread I copied a while back:

Screen Size --> Recommended Viewing Distance

26 inches --> 3.5' to 10.5'

32 inches --> 4' to 13'

37 inches --> 4.5' to 15'

40 inches --> 5' to 16.5'

42 inches --> 5.5' to 17.5'

46 inches --> 6.0' to 19'

52 inches --> 6.5' to 21.5'

Or, to be more pedantic: here's an online calculator!

http://myhometheater.homestead.com/viewing...calculator.html :D

Hope this helps! :)

CutieCat,

the TV wall width should be 2150, not 2750 wor.. :P

unless you going to extend the length using feature wall ..

I do think we sometimes become over "scientific" about these choices simply becuase of access to too much information on the internet ;) . Why not do it the old school way; go to a shop or two, stand or sit/squat the appropriate distance from a range of sizes of TVs and judge for yourself. Seems to me that often in spite of all the science/calculations/technical expertise, many guys want to buy the biggest bestest one with all the latest gadgets and many ladies just want something reasonably discreet (it is a big, black box sitting in your lovely colour coordinated living room after all!) that they can watch without squinting. My suggestion: go...watch...buy what you like & can afford...enjoy!
