oh lady R, cannot use strong chemicals on granite. heard just use warm water and mild detergent will do. CIF is quite strong!

I find that most washcloths and sponges leave streaks on granite. It's a tedious process but wipe with wet microfiber cloth (can use a little glass cleaner or all-surface cleaners) then dry with disposable Chux. Not sure what it's called here, but in Australia we call them Chux

heee..the white still in good white.. love the cabinets only that I dont have any anti slam so sometimes, cabinets with no handle, it just slip out off your hands and BANG! especially when my mom try to close them, me and hubby will cringe to one side

The only regrets is my kitchen floor tiles.. its in matt so there are lots of stain like water stain, I need to keep on mopping the floor

my white kitchen is still good.... i wanted it white so that i can clean it asap when its dirty. Sorry, i don't like my food prepared in dirty places... hahahaha... so if its white, you tend to clean it more often. good and bad..... bad is you will have to keep on cleaning it. hehehehe....

as for the tiles, mine is also textured for the flooring. i like it though..... can't see water stain, only see if dirty feet that are walking everywhere since my tiles are quite white coloured too. But the wall tiles are not textured so no problem at all.

oh good good..always been dreaming of having a white kitchen..with splashes of colour using accessories! ha so i hv to be more hardworking lo! ever thot of using ferrari yellow but scared i will get tired of the colour!! heee

but textured also will trap some dust and at times hard to scrub off too!! heeee

After much discussion, we decided to hold our gathering for a later date. Since we will be having a Housewarming during Hari Raya, I guess it is the best time too to invite Reno Kakis to Our Crib. Date to be confirm again but it will definately in September. I just need to ask what type of food is preferred.. Malay Food like Rendang / Ketupat / Lontong or more to an International Food? I won't be preparing the dishes myself like my previous Hari Raya gathering So...need to cater all this.

hey sorry haven't been checking here these few days. Hari Raya gathering sounds good! i have never been to a Hari Raya house visiting before~ hahaha~ any food will be fine so long as it's food that you like

her kitchen cabinet is nice nice!! i love the textured white kitchen tiles also. looks so stylish. but so far, how is the white coming along? only afraid will turn yellow!! heeee i love white kitchens too! just scared of the maintenance. but somehow white kitchens will fit in my modern theme!!

white kitchen is okie de... my parents' kitchen has been a white one since the day i was born current kitchen was renovated 17 yrs ago, still fine!

yea i hate the marks made when there are drops of water on the floor and feet happen to walk pass... dun even need dirty feet to leave marks... even clean feet also can cause that.

sis may any idea how to maintain the granite? I try to use cif the 1st time but erk it no longer shiny. Especially the island area..its a killer

sis, cannot use cif for granite la~ cif is an abrasive cream cleaner. just use water to wipe will do. like what Ely mentioned, it's important to keep granite dry as water leaves marks

i just use water to wipe... only when the granite top is very dirty then i will use a bit of diluted dish washing liquid to get rid of cooking oil stain etc.

but for the part that is no longer shiny... i'm not sure if you need your contractor to buff it again?

In daiso, there sell this white sponge and they called it "melamine" sponge. It can clean a lot of things, even those water stains on my electric hob. Initially i use sponge and scrub it then i can see scratches (so heartache ). Then i bought this melamine and it can clean it up with no scratches. So i think not a problem to use this melamine sponge on granite too. Won't have scratches and its not strong chemicals.

I even use it to clean the water stains on my chrome mixer. Makes it nice and shiny!

depends on what type of textured. hhmmm... some of them that came my place will know my kitchen flooring textured are quite "smooth" also so no dirt will be trapped in between. That is what i am afraid too, trapped dirt. My previous place kitchen have those textured that trap dirt easily. i also don't know how to explain to you except that you do the same "tile test" as me then you will be able to know what tiles trap dirt easily and what does not.

i also replied in gimz's thread before - if you use melamine cleaning sponge on chrome surfaces, it is nice and shiny at first, but over time the chrome finishing will turn grey due to the abrasive action. that's why i also stopped using cif for all my chrome toilet accessories~

This is all we use. Normal wet cloth with a little soap to clean and rinse, then a dry cloth to wipe over and remove the surface water left. Has worked for us for the last 4 years and we are using the cheaper China Granite.

Thanks all.. I bought the microfibre cloth few days ago..so its time for me to use them

So, conclusion ~ microfibre cloth with warm water or a litle soap for stubborn stain and lastly dry cloth. I will try this experiment & hopefully it works if not Neo have to come back and buffer for me

Matt floor tiles is less slippery but as what Sis Marsy says here the marks/stains of water or even dirts is a killer..I will get sore eyes everytime I walk over to my sink area..storage area is still acceptable. Its my Lil one, gosh everytime she will happily volunteer to wash her hands and splash/sprinkle the water all over

Is it? I read its just like super fine sandpaper so if you don't rub too hard, it will not make your granite top or solid surface without shine. For chrome, i understand cos if you use sandpaper on it, sooner or later sure won't be shiny anymore.

With my quick tempermental character, my kitchen cabinets would have badly damaged by now if I didn't install all anti-slam doors & drawers.

I don't cook but I clean up the surface everyday with moist micro cloth as the windows are left open 24 hours a day. My place here is very windy & therefore very dusty too.

But So far so good, the kitchen is clean & surface top is still shining!

As for the tiles, I have factored in the stains & dirt trapping problems & therefore didn't choose those 'nice to have' tiles, but only those smooth surfaced wall tiles.

Like RB said, wet cloth + dry cloth. It does the job. Paper can leave those annoying paper residue, Chux is just simpler and disposable after quite many uses since it's hardier than paper towels.

Is it? I read its just like super fine sandpaper so if you don't rub too hard, it will not make your granite top or solid surface without shine. For chrome, i understand cos if you use sandpaper on it, sooner or later sure won't be shiny anymore.

there is a coating of sealer on top of granite... it's hard to say how hard is rubbing hard enough to cause damage~ so better not to use anything abrasive... although we know that granites are hard and can take a lot of abuse.

guess the best practice is to use water + cloth~
