Hi

I want to do a total makeover for my 5-R flat. Its a resale. I have signed up package with Krono Original to do laminate flooring.

Have been quoted around $60K (excluding flooring and kitchen/sanitary wares) for the whole renovation. The contractor said $60K is consider cheap for a 5R renovation. Is it true? Is today's renovation really so expensive?

Also I thought of doing the co-ordination work myself but other than carpentry works, I am really confused with what jobs belong to which sub-cons.

1) Hack and remove existing fixtures & flooring

2) Rewiring the whole house

3) Changing all the water piping in toilets/kitchen

4) Constuct the ceiling L box and switches

5) Plastering the walls/floor where necessaey

6) Install nex fixtures such as basins, hood/hob, toilet bowls, etc

I hope I can get some advices from the experienced people here. It will be useful if someone could share the list of sub-contractors involved in a project.

I'm very late in the reply but from what I've gathered so far, hacking requires more money. Rewiring usually isn't quoted as the wires are measured then calculated on the price. Plumbing involves paying the contractors, so it can't be helped.

I think its better for you to get a few quotation from different companies. Since most will give you a quotation item by item, you can then compare whether the companies are charging you market price. May want to start with the firms recommended by forummers here.
