*i think* it wouldn't stain so easily if you maintain properly... my parents' home is using marble counter top, white based one. marble should be more porous than granite le, but it's already been 17 yrs and still good~ :sport-smiley-004:

mine is imperial black. if i remember correctly, black galaxy has more sparks in the granite which doesn't go with the overall look of my kitchen ;)

Henry went "wah don't take those sparkle sparkle one lahhh.... sooooo old fashion~!" really made me laugh hahahaha

Ok.. i will ask my contractor how much it costs it i change to granite top. but truthfully, my reno already aobe my budget. :bangwall:

Originally, my solid surface (think it's LG Hi-mac or wat...) is abt $110 per ft run... then wife wanted granite top... decided to get black one... contractor recommended indian granite @ $135 per ft run, and told us to look at the imperial pearl, "some other" pearl (black pearl, emerald pearl??), and black galaxy...

not too sure if it's more $$$ than market rate or not... and also no idea how to tell what's china or indian granite. :dunno:

bro, if you ask me, i will say China or Indian granite doesn't matter. Indian granite more ex cos apparently the sparks are nicer and the black is more intense (if i remember correctly). But if you are not particular about this aspect, then don't need to go for really high grade indian granite...

my granite is ~$100 pfr, but i never asked where it comes from :P if friends78 is reading this, can ask her to ask Henry where does the black granite on his office table comes from... LOL

Hey Bro n Sis, can we tell the difference between 2 granite (1 china, 1 india) if both are place side by side ??

If no significant difference , is there significant difference in the pricing per foot run ???

bro, you can refer to this very useful and educational article here, written by a very familiar face on RT  but it's posted in another forum:

myhometown . sg /Forum /tabid/84/aff/22/aft/152822/afv/topic/ Default . aspx

(please put the usual "www." in front and take out all the spaces in between to go to the website. can't post this link on RT)

got comparison photos that you can see for yourself... of course China one doesn't look as good in the examples, but if it's cheaper... hee hee i don't quite mind :P

Wah... now i feel my contractor's quote for some items not very cheap leh..

his solid surface is $110 psf run (whereas I looked back at some of the other quotes I've gotten, it's abt $65 psf run)

and his granite (supposedly indian granite) is $135 psf run, compared to yours... which is $100 psf run...

$35 psf run for 21ft = $35 x 21 = $735!!!

sigh...

price itself doesn't reflect whether his quote is cheap or not... it's the combination of price and the material he's supplying~ :)

what brand is he offering for the solid top and granite? i think those $65 pfr solid top are the lower end ones....

there are so many grades for solid surface... the cheap ones will stain easily and you will spend so much time trying to keep it clean.

esp if you're gonna use white.

if you're gonna get the exp one, don't be shy and ask your contractor to guarantee no stain. If he cannot guarantee then better choose another material.

That's true la... it's not just abt the price... also the quality of the materials he's providing...

but somehow, can't help feeling like a "carrot"...

anyway, we're preparing to go down to sign the contract and give him the cheque le...

think will make minor amendments... want to have veneer doors, instead of the nyatoh plywood kind he was suggesting...

*stressed*

If you looking for a better solid surface instead of granite, you can try for "Corian Top". My mom been using it for almost 15yrs now, and it still look new. No stain at all and heat resistance.
