hmmmm what does an electric dog collar do? sounds dangerous~

i'm not afraid of cats/dogs that are kept in a home, but i'm very x 10 afraid of strays~ esp those very aggressive ones....

there was once, a big size stray cat (a regular at my block) stood in front of the lift and refused to let me in... i was so scared that i actually went to take another lift and walked one level down to my home

eh... my deh power not so "powderful" lah. if you deh, i am sure you will overtake me. hehehe....

oh.. forgot to say, don't pout or stomp your feet. that just show you are like a little girl. No men likes little girls (unless its their daughters)... they like women that are weak and depends on them. so stroke their ego instead and use that "tone" to melt their hearts.....

I tried the "tone" but it didn't work. Sigh, so much more to learn about Deh-ing. Think I can do better at being assertive instead. Just need to get myself really irritated before I start barking out orders!

Yes I prefer when people are as when you know they are being so that you can trust they are not prettying up things to save face. I understand the idea of face and it is not a bad one but I would rather just get to the point and know where I stand and what my options are so I can make an accurate choice rather than a choice based on face saving words. i know you will be pretty direct by your comment on the photo of me in the blog . It is good to know so I thank you for it.

It's actually a cultural thing in our society to "refute" compliments.

Yes I understand and to be honest, my wifes mother is the same to her. We never hear any supportive praises of comments from her. If we hear a neutral comment then that usually means she is happy and agrees. Coming from a very supportive family I find it hard to understand how a parent would behave like that to their child. I put it down, as you said, to cultural differences and leave it alone.

Not seeking any sympathy here, thank you very much. Just the hard truths on my admittedly "stupidly insecure" behaviour.

There is nothing stupid about it. It is combination of upbringing and environment that makes us what we are and we just have to learn that we do have the power to change it. I had the power and I am very sure you have the power locked in there and I am sure with your hubbys support you will find it.

Just take an hour to see what you have done and what you have achieved with your life and I am sure you already know that it is a lot more than a large number of people could dream of. Really sit there and think about it honestly.

I used to think my life was pretty boring and I had not done very much with my life until I really thought about it and looked around at my friends and what they had done and although I have made some bad choices along the way as well as good ones, I have actually had a pretty good time so far. I never dreamed 6 years ago I would be living here for a start.

What it is sometimes hard to realise that everyone has inner defects....We all hide them from each other and to an extent they are what make us what and who we are. If you didn't have any defects you may not be the friendly, charismatic, animal loving, fun person you are today but may be a very self absorbed nasty cow .

, so people usually don't believe me and think that I'm either fishing for more compliments or putting on some fake display of false modesty.

I hope I didn't give that impression as that is not what I intended. I know you are not deliberately saying what you do when you get a compliment in order to get more. What I was saying is that if compliments make you feel uneasy then the best way to stop the 'giving food face' lovefest is to say thank you and change the subject as denial usually results in a ping pong match back and forth until everyone has worn out all their nails typing and the spectators have collapsed with neckache

I guess the point is that you do not have to agree with it but just accept that this is what others think. Accept their opinion and move on .

I'm working on it though, which is why I said I humbly and gratefully appreciated their compliments - I just didn't want their kind words to have a life of its own and growing into something that would make me feel more pressurised and conscious about.

Accept the view, put it in a box, lock it away and move on. Don't analyse it, don't think about it anytime later. My best mate back in the UK has the same sort of thoughts as you although he is not as pretty . He is also getting married this year. He has done ok and he is happy with life and he just gets on with things now. The strange thing is that he has let my previous girlfriends know that he tended to measure himself up against me and was always say doing that as I was so confident and had all this adventure. The truth is that most of the time I was flying by the seat of my pants, not knowing where I was going and worried about what would happen when I got there. I was also a ball of worry in our teens and twenties but he just couldn't see it.

It is definitely not meant to irritate people or make others feel worse about themselves. It's a lifelong struggle for me to accept compliments without cringing and hopefully, I'll get there some day. I hope this helps you understand me a little bit more

Cats are more likely to flight than fight, so just shoo it away. It's probably accustomed to being greeted by the other residents at the block and was looking for a pat! Cats are not normally "friendly" creatures so if one comes your cat, it's seeking affection/attention

Haha! That Deh routine done at May's place was deliberately exaggerated just for humour and to show how really bad I am at it. I'll stick to being assertive - it definitely comes more naturally to me than Deh-ing. (epic failure)

I cannot agree more. I'm always envious of those confident women who look great just because they feel great. I remember a saying "Feel like the prettiest girl in the room, and you'd BE the prettiest girl in that room". Confidence is truly the sexiest thing a woman can have. Perhaps I'll just work on those bendy poses in the meantime (NOT in front of the workers!).

How can a cute elfin thing like you be ugly Sometimes I think parents and family are very odd - but it's one great lesson I've learnt NOT to do with my own kids in the future. *hugz*

Wow, I was too busy replying on my own thread (spam ftw) that I forgot to do my updates:

Um, okay. So. There is going to be another several more days' delay, but totally my fault and at my asking.

I assumed, stupidly, that touch-up paint jobs meant fixing all the horrid crevices and bumps and lumps and chips and streaks but was told by the painter today that it needed plastering.

So we're factoring in another 3 days max of plastering. The Husband was initially quite pissed by my last minute decision but I know I wouldn't be able to accept it now that I'm so aware of it.

Today was a crazy day cling-wrapping every piece of furniture and our precioussss HTS, and stored everything we could in all the cupboards/wardrobes/drawers. Also managed to fit in some DIY with a 10-yr-old Ikea drawer chest that I've used forever for my cosmetics. Now the inserts go into the vanity's drawer so I converted the empty case into a guest's amenities shelf in the guest bathroom Even affixed a cat poster as a backdrop haha!

I was so busy with the re-packing that I forgot to take pics of the steel traps (sorry, patsy, I'll do so tomorrow but I'm thinking you should give it a miss - I'm having some problems with them now - the drainage is extremely slow), and the air-con brackets that The Husband made (for boyblunder & RB) /beams with pride.

REVISED SCHEDULE

TUESDAY (DAY 91): Plastering...

WEDNESDAY (DAY 92) Plastering & chipped tile changed, carpentry (misc works like mirrored vanity cupboard, shelving etc)

THURSDAY (DAY 93): Maybe more plastering

FRIDAY (DAY 94): Touch up painting + wallpaper

SATURDAY (DAY 95): General wash + cleaning + Couch delivery

SUNDAY (DAY 96): Personal cleaning + packing

MONDAY (DAY 97): Move in, mabbe?

I'll update pics tomorrow of the walls - I just feel that it's such a waste to spend so much effort and money on reno to live with terrible walls. Not sure if I'm pedantic cos The Husband finds it acceptable. /shrug
