The Best Journey Always Leads Us Home

Recommended Posts

haha maybe it's because i'm so used to moving/packing/unpacking it's robotic now, and my helper knows exactly what to do!

think we've confirmed the place, at least the OTP has been signed, so now we start looking for contractors etc! fun fun fun!!! hehe

have had the discussion on shower mixers with the fiancee, he balked at the price of the Grohe stuff, so don't think i'm going get that for the bathrooms. will look at the kitchen ones though!

will try to find time to do a t-blog !

Actually the basic Grohe like Talis and Focus sets that are on sale are on par with the stainless steel/chrome ones we got from Poh Joo after adding everything up. We couldn't do with the Grohe rainshower as the one we were eyeing was a whooping 3k! Managed to get a similiar-sized one at PJ for $450. Those entry sets would have done very well with our common bathroom, but we saw it too late and felt like slapping ourselves for being so impulsive and for not doing our homework thoroughly. Only realised how close the prices were when we came home and calculated everything - everything seemed so much cheaper when you buy them "a la carte" at the various sanitary stores (and we got from several).

I know what you mean about the auto-mode packing/unpacking. It used to be like that for me when I was a nomad student in Australia - I changed suburbs every 6 months just for a different "feel" - loved the cafe culture and quirky shops, loved being smack in the city in a warehouse loft, loved being completely suburban in a residential estate, loved living by a beautiful beach, loved being by the river etc. :)

I digress :) For a nice tour of Hansgrohe/Miele/Grohe/De Dietrich stuff, head to Interior Affairs at Tai Seng. Gorgeous inspiring showroom that is fairly large. Even if you're not buying, you get a better sense of what you'd like. Everything showcased works, so try the ovens, taps, everything! It was a fun place for us. Think of it as a very expensive, exclusive Ikea ;)

Well, no flooring for the bedrooms.

The rest of the place is a complete overhaul. Floors in living dining, corridor, family room, 3 toilets + walls, kitchen, yard and utility.

Builtin wardrobes in 4 bedrooms. Ceiling works, painting, grinding and polishing of parquet. Demolishion and removal of all the existing carpentry and there was loads.

I'm trying to make myself feel better, it's not really working. It's **** expensive :bangwall:

Very old unit, so need to do up a lot.

Same for us - our apartment is 25yrs old in original condition so everything needs to be done. Our reno is quickly adding up to meet yours though! However, we have only 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms - added a kitchen, hacked planter boxes/false walls, retiled everything except for grinding/polishing/re-colouring parquet for bedrooms, wallpapering feature walls in bedrooms, lots of carpentry (9 doors of wardrobes and cabinets for both dry/wet kitchens/bathroom's vanity tops, linen sink), replacement of all windows/grills/doors/balcony sliding, roof extension, painting and ceiling works.

Don't be so discouraged though I honestly know how you feel. It feels like a never-ending abyss into which we're plunging  It just keeps adding up, and it's very stressful (been falling sick, not sleeping well, and money problems are never easy for a relationship).

Breathe through it, JCase, and hopefully when we get the home we want, we'd feel we've done the right thing by being so ambitious :)

Now for something light-hearted after all that money talk ;)

My Big Buffa Boy! Very rarely do you see his mouth open, he hardly ever speaks, and when he does, it comes out like some strangled chicken high-pitched mew. So in all seriousness, probably not the most sensitive picture as cats don't pant like dogs do - it probably means he was overheated or over-stressed when the pic was taken (Mom took him out to a family gathering to show him off~).

Actually, he was on a diet, and have lost 2kg, which is pretty good as that's 1/5 of his weight! So, he's now a happy 8kg boy :)

People are still amazed how huge he is though.

How long do "normal" renovations take? Surely not as long?

-Ely

I gave my ID 8-weeks. He said it could be done in 6-7 weeks. We'll see.

I told him that I wll hold back final payment if there is a delay. Can't afford any delays I our currently flat will hopefully be rented out 3rd week of June.

So far there seem to be following the schedule quite well bar a few hiccups whhich is not their fault but the faultof MSCT.

Easy to see how it's my favourite place eh? :)

Gorgeous sunset, a glass of Rose, John Coltrane playing, Bondi at my feet, Maxey on my lap, my husband's arm around me, scented candle votives - mmMMmm. Now THAT'S what I call home :)

If only we can get the unneutered Cocker upstairs to stop barking everytime I'm out there ><
