CutieCat 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2011 in fact, the very important thing is to give your ID the measurements of whatever electrical appliances you bought. timing is very important. first, you need to agak-agak know how long is the whole renovation process gonna be, even before the ID/contractor gives you the schedule. ask when is the best time that the electrical appliances should come in, and by when he needs to know the exact dimensions of your electrical appliances that may affect his space planning, especially big items like fridge, washing machine, and even TV. for me, i have already started looking around at electrical stores like best denki, courts, harvey norman, audio house and even smaller establishments like parisilk, goh ah bee, and everjoint. i created a spreadsheet to list down the possible make and model of the electrical appliances that i was interested, and the amount offered by each seller. all these are recorded via google spreadsheet so that i can record it using my iphone wherever and whenever i am. and when my ID says he wanted the measurements of the electrical appliances i have bought, i quickly went to harvey norman and show them my spreadsheet and asked if they can match the lowest price of the various sellers of all my interested electrical appliances. see my signature on what i have bought from harvey, total damage < $7k. when i made my purchases, i told them the expected time of delivery is about a month later when my reno is almost complete. after i made my purchases, i gave my ID the measurements of the tv, fridge, washing machine. with this measurements, he can then re-assess to see what he originally designed can hold my upcoming new fridge, washing machine, and tv. Wow, u went to many places to compare the prices! Kudos to u! these 2 days, we just went too Havey, Courts, *spam, in the end we decide to buy the fridge only, both of us are very tired already. Maybe i shd adopt ur way of putting in Excel and show to the vendor to match or get lower pricing

Maybe i shd adopt ur way of putting in Excel and show to the vendor to match or get lower pricing I'm more old-fashioned - I still love carrying spiral notebooks around and writing everything down. Like I suggested to you CutieCat, you don't really need "prove" that somewhere offered a better price. I simply told the HN salesguy "well, they're offering it for $xxx somewhere else" and he would excuse himself to "check the best price", then return to say he'll match it. I agree with weeeeee's advice about getting everything purchased in time for carpentry. As the pedantic Virgo, I printed out the specs of EVERYTHING - including everything that would go into the TV console, on top of the console, beside the console; the sinks and taps so he can customise the vanity with better precision, the electrical goods so the kitchen cabinets can be planned for better space management, then we can decide on how many drawers/cabinets etc, even down to the size of my laptop so it'd fit the study desk perfectly. If you haven't engaged an ID yet, you still have time - just jot down the models you like and make phonecalls from home, or check Gain City's/Courts' website. Much easier than physically going down to every store - you'll find yourself very tired indeed. -Ely
soulfire13 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2011 (edited) Hi there, Congrats on your reno journey! I'm also a Punggol Springer and am intending to hack the kitchen walls like what you did. So did you really pay $500 for the PE approval? Edited April 3, 2011 by soulfire13

weeeeeee..... 1 Report post Posted April 4, 2011 today was the installation of air-con piping, and the extension of gas piping. my ID coordinated everything for me, and supervised the installations. i went down to do a quick inspection after o knocked off from work and this is what i found... in the wall of my MBR view from my MBR out to the living room. notice the big blocky air-con pipe running above my MBR door? ugly, right? hope my ID can do magic on this. view from my kid's bedroom. the right-end actually terminated and ran through the wall to my MBR (refer to the 1st pic above). view of my air-con ledge... view of my living room, where my feature wall and tv console supposed to be. the air-con will be installed above the feature wall, thus the piping terminates here.
