40826084 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2011 hello all: I am planing to do something with my newly bought re sell Condo kitchen 1. the work top: they are solid top white colour and already 7 years, so there are a lot of yellow stains, intially we were planing to just change the top because the cabinets are still in very good condition, but i went to some contractors they told me that is impossible because the solid top and the cabinets are attatched together, so they are unable only to change the solid top for us, and we have to change with the cabinets together (do a new set), so i am wondering is that ture bacause i have no experience in renovation at all, so i am seeking advice from you old folks, if what the contractor told me is true, is there any other things we could do with the top (except polish it coz i don think it will last) to make it look good. 2.the cabinets: they are Laminated and we would like to change the colour, can we re paint them or just paste thoes papers (like wall paper) to make them look new? Thank you all in advance to give me your precious advices.
Eurypylus 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2011 I'm no expert, but after seeing how the top is being glued to the cabinet, I don't think there's any way one can remove the top w/o causing damage to the cabinet.

It seems that so long its the word condo..everything seems a little pricey....on my quotation list...sigh..i wanted to relaminate at first..but then..forget it.. the more i see it the more i cannot stand the yellowish carcass within.. =x Hi I understand you can't remove the solid top from the cabinet otherwise it will damage the cabinets below. I believe you can re-polish the solid surface top coz I did see the guys who were installing my solid surface top last time. It was quite a long piece so they had to glue two pieces together and then use some kind of machine to "polish" the joint so that you cannot see the joint. There was a lot of fine dust generated from the "polishing" process so I believe you can do it for existing solid surfaces too and it might take off the top layer which has stains or minor scratches. I suppose if there are deep scratches then the polishing may not work. My solid top was installed by this company - Evershine - you can call them to see if they offer polishing for existing tops http://www.evershine.com/ I also googled and found a thread where a company was advertising re-polishing for solid tops - can call 81136820 to enquire. Discussion thread from here: http://www.singaporebrides.com/forumboard/...html?1263814769 As for the laminates on the cupboards, you can actually strip off the laminate on the doors and re-laminate it, but that means the side of the cupboard will have different colured laminate unless that is also stripped off. Frankly I think if the cupboard and laminate is still okay, just continue to use it.... otherwise a lot of work and $$$ involved.
