Oh.. Forgot to include this photo the same time I saw that termite infested piece of wood..

IMG_2842-1.jpg

Feels somewhat disturbing.. Think it was done by the workers back when they were putting the kitchen tops up for the previous owner.. Hope there's no such thing this time around..

P.s. wtb thought it was some curse/talisman/voodoo meant to be on us.. LOL

After hacking (26/3/11)

The kitchen

IMG_2873.jpg

Ahhh.. no more awful kitchen counters and broken down drawers.. :D Btw, I find it real silly that a building constructed not more than 5 years ago does not have citi-gas connection! What's up with that? Instead, we gotta use one of those gas tanks which will take up one whole drawer space.. urghh..

Oh.. there's a hideous pipe in the middle of the kitchen.. Wanted to shift it further to the right so that it will be behind the washing machine.. Oh well, can't do anything about it since we're not hacking the wall tiles.. :(

Thinking back, we should've hacked the wall tiles too since we're going for one of those chimney hoods and the size of our fridge is kinda big.. So some areas of the kitchen will have to make-do with an "almost similar" looking tiles.. Sigh.. Too late for regrets now..

The future walk-in-wardrobe

IMG_2884.jpg

IMG_2870.jpg

Actually looks quite huge.. I think it's almost the equivalent size of one of the common rooms.. Such a shame that it's located at quite an awkward position.. Can't make it into a entertainment room.. Too bizarre for my tastes to actually walk through the toilet to get to the entertainment room.. Though, thinking bad, would've been quite convenient as I dont have to walk so far to get to the toilet.. kkekeke..

Realised the t-blog is actually 3 weeks outdated.. whoops.. :P Must be more hardworking dy

Oh, btw, if anyone notice the pool of water in the WIW photos..

Spoke to the ID about it and apparently his workers accidentally burst through a pipe connecting to the WIW.. But he guaranteed that there will not be any leakages and shouldn't affect other areas of the house.. Fair enough.. Afterall, we wont need water connecting to the WIW..

Hopefully this wont come back and kick us in the @$$.. :P

HAhaha... why would anyone want to curse you when they don't even know you will buy that condo? must be the previous owner did something bad to the workers so they wrote nonsense. don't believe it, then nothing will happen. :)

seem like you are surrounded by terrace houses or bungalows??

Well, not worth the effort by city gas to do that? all piping and in the end, you might not use it too?? usually for landed, a lot of stuffs are not available or need extra to have it like scv, opennet, city gas etc....

ex owner will be a bit childish to do this, right?? just assume it was the workers that make the cabinets was cursing the ex owner lah.... then no need to whine. :)

I agree. You should have hacked the wall tiles too. Otherwise the kitchen might looked "half-baked". Izzit too late to do it now? Can get a quotation? It might not be as much as you think. It would be a pity to have a beutiful new kitchen and the wall tiles still the old ones. You might regret it later. The wall tiles can change the overall look of the kitchen significantly. It's one of those items that you can't do later. Whereas for your movable items like furniture, electrical appliances, you can still get them later when you have more funds.

Why did you choose chimney hood? It is bulky and takes up cupboard space. Somemore needs more maintenance (to clean and polish the chimney. As a general rule, those things that look nice need more maintenance.

citygas seems to be by district/cluster, not by how old or how new the flats are... i shared that in my t-blog (well, i'm one who wanna use piped gas but no gas to use :()

my uncles' 42 yr old HDB has citygas, my cousin's new condo doesn't have........... strange planning that citygas has......

in the end, we use induction hob, though running cost will be higher but at least no need to think about the gas tank.

Certain things that are fashionable now and nice to look at but in the long run might not be practical are:

1. Chimney hood - this is good for large kitchen as it gives the "country" atmosphere but if kitchen is small then the chimney might overwhelm the decor. And yeah....climbing up on ladder to clean the hood is not a happy prospect for me. Sure will get oil stuck to the chimney after a while. Big fridge + chimney hood = yr kitchen will tend to look crowded (unless you have luxury of a large space).

2. Hanging dishrack with flap up-and-down door on hydraulic system - also nice to look at but sometimes the hydraulic system doesn't work so well and then the flap might be hard to lift up or close. Somemore the dishrack will have limited vertical space on top as it is fitted into a cupboard and you will find it annoying not to be able to put big items on the rack and in the end you will still need a rack on the table top for easy/faster access and to accomodate the tall items. And you will curse that the cupboard on top cannot accomodate more crockery because of the basket design.

Lightings!!!

The blueprint for the lightings

Electricals.jpg

I think the 9 LED lights for the living room is a little overkill though.. But WTB and red audi + electrician insisted to have 9 there or it would be too dim.. In any case, the number of lights is still over-kill in my opinion.. But what to do.. Gotta grind it out so that w ecan spend the rest of our lives (or at least the next 10 years) in a beautiful home :good::jammin::sport-smiley-004:

In totality, there will be approximately:-

- T5's - 35 units

- LED downlights - 17 units

- PLC downlights - 10 units

- Ceiling fan/light - 2 units

- Chandelier - 1 unit

- Ceilinght light - 1 unit

- Balcony light - 1 unit

- Bedside table light - 2 units (? ) <Hopefully red audi will absorb this.. :horse: >

The result? A beautiful home with one very VERY bankrupt owner? :drunk:

The hunt for lightings and fans will begin this weekend. Plan to go down to JB for it. Anyone got any good suggestions where to start? Anyways what are the average price range as a gauge so that I don't get chopped in JB.. :P

Thankfully I visited your t-blog, valerie and eggroe.

That's a very comprehensive lighting plan. I wish I had done the same. Basically pointed and pondered on-site with my ID. Gawd, now cannot even remember what was agreed on!! I'm so retarded. :bangwall:

Was just wondering where to go in JB for the lights. We have a Malaysian friend who would take us so no need to rely on GPS (hopefully)! I hear that lights are so much cheaper there, but if I can't find the feature lamps I saw and love, I'll come back and just get them here, and buy all the T5/T8/downlights in JB. So Tampoi, here we come!

My apartment is also old (25yrs old!), in original condition, and needed a major rehaul but my reno costs are a lot more than yours. I have the same Samsung TV too at the same price (not at IT show)!

I wonder why condo threads have poor response...:(

Re-tiling of kitchen

Our first visit to the place (prior to purchase), the kitchen actually looked in good condition.. But subsequently, it just went horribly wrong..

**** ex-owners.. Cos they rented the place for 2 more months after signing the S&P <In totality, we waited for 5 months till we officially got the keys>, they must've trashed the place cos they knew it wasn't theirs anymore.. The kitchen was in horrible state.. Oil marks all over the kitchen.. Floor tiles badly stained with dirt.. They probably never maintained the house at all.. When I turned on the hood, the whole kitchen started smelling like OIL!!! WTH right?!?! :curse: We weren't planning on overhauling the kitchen.. But I guess, that left us with no choice..

Anyway, we paid a visit to a neighbour subsequently and saw their kitchen in REALLY good condition unlike ours*envy*.. All except the floor tiles though.. For some reason, the developer chose some really lousy tiles. It stains easily after a few years and these black stains are not removable.. So more things to add to our already straining budget

On 22/2, went for tiling selection.. Took us less than 15 minutes to get the tile we wanted..

Initially, we wanted a rustic looking tile (much like BlurRhino's :P).. But the ID suggested a few others and we decided to be a little bolder and try something different!! WTB immediately fell in love with his suggestion. SO we went for it

The tile we chose for our kitchen!

IMG_2863.jpg

We liked it cos it gives a very futuristic look to the kitchen.. Also, it makes the kitchen a little more alive cos its shiny!!! kekeke.. The texture is quite rough though.. But at least, no one will be falling down in the kitchen if it's wet..

My only concern was maintenance.. Due to the texture of it, I guess it would be pretty hard to clean..

ID initially proposed to use a different tile for the mortar base for washing machine and fridge.. Sounded like a good suggestion with the details and all.. But subsequently, after comparing side by side, this would make the kitchen too complicated.. Cos the tile we selected was already shiny/bright (even though it's black :P).. Oh well, scrapped the idea.. Though, I still think it would look nice..

But in the end, since the kitchen is not my area, WTB will have the final say.. :(
