Bath Tub

Hi has anybody here ever construct a bath tub by just constucting the brickwall with tile finish only in HDB?

you mean your contractor or yourself constructing the bathtub?

usually they will lay three hollow block, dividing them equally under the length of the bathtub. then they will built a wall to cover the exposed side of the tub with hollow blocks then laid your selected tiles to finish it.

there will be a opening design to open at the brickwall for maintenance access.

Hope this helps

Are you referring to this? I just did it for my place

Method is as what Heronspring mentioned. They will also use cement below the tub around the hollow bricks. Make sure that they do not step into the tub after the cement is laid. To set the tub evenly, they should fill the tub up with water overnight (plug up the hole well).

No. It will be just a brick wall by the side then I just tile up the internal and *** a pop up waste. Something like those sunken bath if you happen to visit some condo showflat.

HDB cannot have sunken bath. please show pic to be specific.

before the brickwall, the tub have to be raised to a certain height (somewhere hip level) with some hollow block

Ya, I understand HDB cannot have sunken bath. But I do not have picture to show. This idea just come in my mind. I actually do not want to have a tub . I just like to create a bath tub and use tile to tile up the side and on the floor, so that it look like a bath tub and we still can fill up water and enjoy the bath tub feeling.... but dunno if it is possible or not.

Found this on web site... would be something like that. No bath tub require. Just tile the floor and wall will do

Hi,

i could not see anything from the pic. But i roughly know your idea but there are a few things to take note;

1) the width of the brickwall u wanted to built will cause the "bath area" to be smaller. unless u have a huge bathroom

2) the whole set up have to be water proof. they have to waterproof it before applying the tiles. it is a huge job

3) you have to determine the height of the base of the bath tub. this will incur more material to built it.

bottomline i think it can be done but i am not sure whether is there any implication from HDB.

Cheer

Just to add on, you might need to create some "steps" to get into your bathtub because the sides can potentially be quite high and you won't be able to climb in easily. If I'm not mistaken I saw something like that when I was flat hunting last time. There was a guy who built this in his master room toilet but he had to extend the toilet (i.e. smaller master room) because normal HDB toilet is too small to have something like that. I remember the steps of the tub and was thinking that each time I took a bath, it would look as if like I was going to a bathtub on an altar :D And I don't think it's design-friendly for children and old folks too.
