vratenza 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2011 Hi! Since I am changing to digital lock and refurbishing my fire-rated main door, I'm intending to replace my 13yr old door closer to a new one with hold open function (hate the magnetic holder). Are they all the same regardless of brands? I am looking for one with: 1) smooth closing action 2) anti-slam 3) hold open function Please recommend me some brands and where i can get them? Thanks! I purchased the door closer with hold-open feature from Contat recently as my contractor threw away my old closer. The hold feature is on the arm itself, which consist of adjustable bracket for setting the opening angle and a ball-bearing to lock it. Maybe you can just replace the arm rather than the whole door closer, but it depends, and it cost around S$25 ~ S$28. The overall functionality on smooth closing, anti-slam and hold-open is good. If you are installing the Yale digital lock, the Yale installer will also tune the closing & anti-slam speed for you. On the hold-open angle, you can adjust it using a spanner. gohhuishi 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2011 will it be easy to DIY install? hmm.. i got the door lock person to help me put it up.. but i guess it shd be.. (if u have the right tools) mainly drill a hole.. screw it in tight.. (from what i saw.. coz it took like a couple of mins only for them) the adjusting is pretty easy... Door Lock / Handle (Contat) 3018 Bedok North St 5 #05-21 Eastlink 6442 4904 does it hold open the door? is it soft closing? how much is it? thanks!
tvincent 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2011 does it hold open the door? is it soft closing? how much is it? thanks! vratenza, If you look closely at the left side of the picture, the bracket with a "U" undercut will slide and be lock by a ball bearing when you open the door. Contat do sell Dorma brand but unsure of the models. therat, Should you get this door closer model, it comes with a paper template which you can paste it against the door and start to drill the holes. therat 18 Report post Posted January 19, 2011 OK. Let me discuss with my spouse. Presently , the main door has a closer but it is like office type. Open then must use sth to stop. He hate that closer. For this kind of door closer model. It is only will lock at 90degree. Or user can adjust. My shoes cabinet is just right behind of the main door (if open wide) Then if want to close it. Will it be easy?

Will it be easy? the cost i cant rem.. let me go home and check.. yep... it holds the door.. as tvincent said.. the ball bearing will "lock" the door and hold it there.. yep.. soft closing as well.. there is this plate behind the rectangle box... u can adjust the speed of the door "auto closing" oso can lock more than 90degrees.. just have to adjust the ball bearing... one thing to note.. which i did wrongly... when i was purchasing it.. my thoughts were on whether when i open the door.. will the rectangle box be too bulky and block/hit my shoe cabinet door... i thought i was quite smart to make sure there is enough clearance... but i forgot about my shoe cabinet door opening so.. now when i open my left hand side shoe cabinet door.. it will hit the long arm .. lucky my shoe cabinet door is top/bottom.. bottom one still can use.. top one.. can only open half..
