user123 5 Report post Posted January 11, 2011 Hi, For those using all white laminate for kitchen cabinet, can u see the black joining line at all the edge of the doors and the frames? I saw some ready make white tv consoles, shoe cabinets, the edge are very smooth and u don't see a single black joining line. but my kitchen cabinet can see all the edge joining lines. the ID told me because the back of the laminate is black color and when they join, the edge sure can see the black line, is this true? Hi, remember reading somewhere in renotalk... for carpentry, usually ABS trimming are done on doors so the edge will be smooth, while for the main frame, trimming won't be done so will still see the joining line - did you specify ABS trimming for carpentry in the quotation? as for ready-made one, usually don't have this same problem. hope this helps

january 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2011 Join lines are visible for cabinets covered using laminates, unless 1. ABS trim is used 2. Colour core laminate is used. The ready made cabinets you see may be spray painted using a high-gloss paint, which is why you don't see any join lines. Hope this helps.

demioboy78 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2011 Abs trimming is a kind of edge finishes for cabinet doors. Must be specified to the contractor before installation. Abs trimming can be applied to all cabinet doors, with additional cost. Another more costly edge trimming, will be compressed doors...
Bunnymummy 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2011 How much will ABS trimming cost? I don't think I specified this to my contractor either.
hpsp123 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2017 Hi, so with ABS trim, I shouldn't see the joint lines? Because even after ABS trimming, I can see joint lines. Would that be because of poor workmanship? Also, my contractor said that I have to use a different colour for my ABS trim because the colour of my cabinet laminate is a bit unusual. Is it better to just have the edges done with the same laminate? Will there be more wear and tear without ABS trim?
hkc 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2018 The black line is because of the base of the laminate - there are two types: white and black. you will not see the line if it is white based but that will be more expensive. For the black one you can use a white paint marker or paint. I am in the same situation and my contractor tried to use paint on it but he did such a bad job that it got frustrating. I think a white paint marker from popular will be better and I am going to do it myself
