Ikea Kitchen

Recommended Posts

Hi, I like the IKEA system too. But planning to buy all drawers and pullouts from Ikea and have the carpenter do up the frame in plywood and front. Has anyone tried this? Any advice?

Hi toonie,

I think there are very high chances that your carpenter may not want to accept such an assignment becox they would prefer that you use their materials completely.

But you can still try to ask your carpenter if he's willing to do it.

i think ikea pullouts are expensive for ikea products. Do compare the prices to blum to see if its worthwhile.

carpenters may be willing to do the frame for you i think.

Yes, thanks, I have checked with my carpenter, he is ok to do the frame for Ikea system, but told me to check out Blum system as well. So now, we may be going ahead with Blum instead. It is more expensive than Ikea's, but their system can take up to the weight of 65kg per drawer, so if you have 2 stack of 50cm drawers using Ikea system, you combine them into 1 stack of 100cm drawers, you will b able to save some cost. But then again, their Orga-line is much more expensive than those from Ikea. Guess you just have to pay more for a better system.

65kg is like my weight la. I Tink u would need lots of strength to pull out the drawer...a little over designed in my view.

The soft close mechanisms does feel much better for blum though.:)

if you make the drawers 120cm long and planning to store stacks of china ware or cast iron pots and pans, then I think 65kg may be needed.

No, it's 120cm in width not in depth. Blum system can support a drawer up to 120cm in width. but I am making mine 80cm in width only.

take note, for the max rated loading of the timber supports if really want to store heavy things. may need thicker n stronger plywood (and higher costs) u dun want the sidewall supports to give way.
