schakia 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2010 Hi all, I just completed my2nd appointment and will be starting renovation in feb. It is expected to be completed in end march. Would like to know is it too early now to source for electrical appliances (air-con, tv, washing machine, fridge)? If i were to purchase everything from 1 place say harvey norman or courts, those big shops, will they be able to give me additional discounts? And also, can i request leave a open date for delivery say in April, but day not fixed? If thats the case, when will the warranty period starts? Anyone has such experience? Sorry for the long post. Hope somebody can advise me on all of the above. Thanks in advance!

DOWN so the later you buy, the better there are numerous fairs and IT shows every year and almost every single one will sell TVs however, I cannot recall the last time any of these fairs were "genuinely" cheaper I can only recall the Philips Carnival sale and Harvey Norman warehouse sale at Benoi that had REAL deals i.e. some items are now retailing at a price HIGHER than these 2 fairs

IMHO, buy only when u need it, not forever waiting for prices to drop until ridiculously low.... if u buy say 6months at a warehouse sale (where jump-storey prices entice u) before u start using them, chances are u lose ur warranty coverage for that period of storage time... as electronic goods never appreciate in value, why buy first? for all u know, the price u bot 6mths back will be more expensive when u buy now.... so no point really in buying first and deliver (much) later.... martin1023 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2010 (edited) My 2nd appointment is in Jan2011 but I already starts to buy electrical appliances. Courts bukit timah having removal sale and some appliances is dirt cheap + free gifts. I bought phlips juice extractor HR 1866 at $168 only free additional wire mesh. Everywhere else the price is $229. Bought items in sitex also. Now in Dec, a lot of sale going on for Christmas. Look around n u will find some good deals. If u wait till Jan or Feb next year, all the sale is over n back to normal price. Edited December 21, 2010 by martin1023

You can select all items you need, pay minimum downpayment and upon delivery, if price reduce, they will refund you the balance by deducting from your outstanding amt. And if price increase, that's their problem, haha.. Price wise, they might be on par with Mustafa. =)

forgotten 1 Report post Posted December 21, 2010 (edited) Washing machine and fridge come in different dimensions. You need to know what are the exact spaces allocated for them in your kitchen floorplan first, before you decide the models to buy. For the smaller kitchen applicances, it's definitely fine to buy them earlier and inform the vendor about the exact delivery date later. I did this. Happy shopping Edited December 21, 2010 by forgotten
horseman 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2011 I don't know about others, but my experience with Everjoint sucks. I ordered 11 KDK ceiling, ventilation and wall fans end Oct and paid in cash in full, more than $2k. For delivery, I arranged for the fans to be delivered in the morning. They arrived way past noon, after I called the company repeatedly to check. The boss of the company - a Mr Lee - said that there was a problem with the "lorry side" and that the lorry will be there in ten minutes. Ten minutes eventually became one hour. When I pushed the boss to confirm the delivery time, he asked me to show respect and talked nicely. When the fans came, the number of warranty cards did not match the number of fans and the rod length of one of the fans was wrong. The delivery guys were unhappy when I pointed the mistakes to them. Everjoint is cheap, but please do not make my mistake of paying cash in full, and be prepared for tardy service. why not recommend Everjoint? Mind to share? megko 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2011 For big items, like air con, hob/cooker, fridge, washing machine, etc..if you have decided on a good model, and there's a sale, can book early and most stores can hold for you for a while. But these items got to do with your reno, as the dimensions may affect the layout. So it's likely your contractor will chase you to go get them soon. For LCD/LED TV...the latter, the new technology and a huge drop in prices for older models......so...that can wait, I think, unless the sale is resistible and you don't mind an older model. Small items like oven, rice cooker, are only esentials when you move in...so can buy much later and they are not too expensive so price flunctuations shouldn't affect your budget vey much.
