i also like that idea. dual/triple use of the island - food preparation, dining, entertaining area...

i actually wanted to hack my utility room, and extend my kitchen so that the dining area is seamlessly connected with the kitchen. And I don't need a very big dining area also.

Then my existing dining area can be converted to a study area, with glass partition...

BUT... BUT... BUT... all these very $$$, so scraped the idea. :P

Maybe the floor plan and the items are to scale, BUT one might not be able to visualize and appreciate the scale of things on paper... (may look ok to pass thru, but actually very very tight...)

typical walking width: 60cm (min), 80-90 (recommended) - my agar-ation...

:P

Basically I wanted this idea so that I have enough preparation area, as u see that the stove and sink area against the wall is quite small. Cos I might buy bigger sink.

I am giving at least 110cm of walking space. Nothing is less than that as I like space when I walk, not cramp into 80cm. My contractor says there are enough for that 110cm walking.

haha idea of big is quite subjective... i found HDB kitchen super huge... maybe becos i came from a place where kitchens are typically the size of a normal HDB toilet~ :P

That's :good:

my space planning also a bit tight at certain area (~80-90cm), which I'm still skeptical abt whether it will look and will have further unforeseen repercussions (eg. need to move big items ard, etc)

1. the walk space between the (proposed) king-sized bed and the sliding door wardrobe (think sure cannot use casement door type) - 80 cm.... *sweat*

2. the walk space between the protruding portion of the kitchen counter (where my sink will be residing) and the nearest wall - 90cm... * sweat* ... as i'm thinking of changing the opening of my wash area; that area is potentially "high traffic"

:(

1) yes the floorplan is to scale and the items are more or less. Will relook again.

2) the clearance can be adjusted but what I am worried abt is the island for the kitchen.

3) the best thing abt this flat, no pipes in master toilet. Only the one for toilet bowl which not affecting anything. As for the beams, already flushed in with the rest of items.

So good?? no pipes? then where do all the pipes go?

i envy you... pipes in both my toilets are located in the weirdest place imaginable (one even blocked the windows :bangwall:)... spoils all my grand plans for the toilets... haiz.... :(

oh... 80cm is really quite small leh... imagine if you need to bend down and might know here and there... bed to wardrobe still ok as bed is low. but sink to wall, i think its a bit tight.....

Pls ignore the numbers cos I don't know how to remove them. And when I was drawing, it was showing the right meters but after that, it's all over the place. The numbers doesn't correspond to the right items.

My reservation? Come in main door see kitchen. A bit not nice...

hmmm then make the island nicer so it doesn't look like kitchen? another idea is... how about putting the shoe cabinet half height parallel to the main door, so it sort of create a foyer and the kitchen doesn't look so expose at the main door? hope you get what i mean... :P but i'm sure you have already explored lots of ideas hahahahaha

actually i think the conversion part doesn't sound very $$$, it's probably the glass that is going to be expensive... why not just do it and then put the glass later? ;)

at my work place, the industrial standard for operation walk path is minimum 70cm, but of course if the person is me, even 50cm is okie

only 1 pipe that goes from the toilet bowl to the common toilet on the ceiling only.....

i will take lots of picture when i get my keys then you can see what i mean.

ya, trying to see how to make it a nice island cos the part of the island into the living is actually a dining table. the part where its in the kitchen is where there are space for food preparation.

I know what you mean by putting shoe cabinet parellel to main door and make it like a walkway/foyer? hhhmm...... then there will not be enough space between the foyer to the island.... too tight liao...

I know where marsh is from.... i know what she meant by kitchen as big as hdb toilet.

:dancingqueen:

sigh you've seen it before rite... it's impossible for 2 people to be in the kitchen simultaneously~ :(

aiks.... i see... talking about space crunch~ if want to do the foyer thing then the island probably should rotate 90º to be parallel to main door too... or.... how about L-shape island??? hahaha think i'm getting a little too imaginative :P

oh... 80cm is really quite small leh... imagine if you need to bend down and might know here and there... bed to wardrobe still ok as bed is low. but sink to wall, i think its a bit tight.....

So now, considering whether to "downgrade" to queen-size bed... (coz WTB and me also not very big size la... BUT of coz king-size more shiok, right? can roll here, roll there, still got space and won't disturb the other person.

but maybe it's so tight, partly, because i put 80cm as the depth of the wardrobe. I'm not too sure what's the norm... 60cm or 66cm or wat?

As for the kitchen sink and wall... hmmm... maybe need to shorten it a bit... (the protruding part), actually, also thinking whether it's necessary to have the protruding part...

it's gd because:

1. increase kitchen top area (more food preparation area + space to put electrical appliance

2. more storage area (under the kitchen; coz some of the bottom cabinet going to be "eaten" up by the gas cylinder"

3. improve the "golden triangle" so that more optimal placement of stove, sink and fridge; else stove and sink will be almost side-by-side with some small counter space in-between.

it's bad because:

1. decrease walking space - movement difficulty in "high traffic" area

2. makes the kitchen look "less spacious"

3. might have difficulty handing laundry...

oh well... wait for keys on monday... then go up with my measuring tape and camera... :P

But hack the utility room le... means no more storeroom... we intend to get 2 bicycles :P next time, no place to store... only storage area is underneath the staircase, which is like... not much... LOL...

:P

I think better to have king bed.... usually when you have baby, high chance baby will sleep in between. don't know why but that is how i seen it so far.... really to have the discipline to have baby on cot is very very difficult.

hhmm... i thought normal wardrobe also abt 60cm? i am not so sure too... hahahhahaha..... but bring your chosen contractor to do measurement lah. they will be able to advise you better, isn't it??

ya, storeroom is a must..... too many things to keep on store room. haahahaha.....
