Never heard of it. There r many furniture shops nowadays.

For teak furnishings, I always get them from The Helping Hand, a halfway house located along serangoon road. They also do customisation too, that's if u liked anything there and if u're ok with sales proceeds going to helping these ex-prisoners.

my wife got a teak cabinet from them a few years back... after delivery noted to have wood dust on the floor around it that reaccumulate even after wiping many times....we suspected wood worm or termites...so called to ask for exchange. I cannot remember if they do not have a similar unit to replace or because they cannot guarantee that the replacement piece will not have the same problem... so in the end we got a refund.

teak suppose to be termites resisitent.

ok at least they refund you - i consider good service.

hmmm should i look for their service ? AFter all, you bought the cabinet few years back, so i cannot say this is a lousy company unless i hear other forum members.

But thanks for your feedback.

i also thought teakwood is termite resistant.....that's why i'm not sure how the daily accumulating wood dust come from. My wife is very squirmish about bugs and insects, so the very thought of possibly some bugs, be it termite or wood worms is in our house is a definite no no for her.

you r right, i would not say that they are a lousy company and by the fact that we manage to get a refund verbally over the phone was fine as well.

The only thing is that after that phone conversation, there was no active followup on their part to seek ways to refund the money. Since this is a halfway house, and the profits go towards funding the halfway house runnings, we decided to not pursue the refund and treat it as a donation to charity.

Maybe my incident is just a once off event. I'm just sharing it for information and not to dissuade anyone from giving them a try. cheers!

Hi vratenza,

I'm so sorry to hear about ur bad experience with Helping Hand. No wonder their furnitures r always on great sale nowadays. I bought from them 10 yrs ago & didn't have such issues.

One of my cabinets also has saw dust spilling out from the gaps where the sliding portions of the drawers r becox they didn't install rollers so the friction would cause parts of the teak wood to rub against each other when we pull out the drawers.

But if the saw dust kept appearing, then... something is terribly wrong! Proabbly signs of termites becox the wood is disintegrating.

I think Helping Hand should take this feedback seriously. Otherwise, it'll hurt them at the end of the day when they've got no supporters for their teak products.

I saw their products and really like those raw matt finishings. Considering getting a sofa from them provided I can find where to tailor outdoor cushions as they have only fabrics or pvc.
