Sanding / Polishing Of Floors Before Or After Installing Lights?

Hi there,

Sorry for the newbie sounding topic. Really need some advice. My contractor told me that the sanding of my hardwood floors and polishing of marble should be the last step of my home renovation, after every basic thing is done (e.g. painting of walls, installing down lights on L boxes, etc). Sounds logical to me, as I wouldn't want my floors to be damaged by the mentioned examples.

However my in-laws are suggesting that I sand / polish floors before installing my lights, as the dust will be horrible after the sanding and polishing process. Would really appreciate some advice and opinions. Don't want to be disrespectful to my in-laws, but don't want to make a stupid decision either hahaha.

After sanding and polishing, your contractor should cleanup for u also. Follow his proposed sequence, at least u won't end up with problems and the contractor can't help u coz u changed the sequence.

its easier to tape up your lights with plastic bags than to put protection on your floor.
