self declared ID, no

contractor? no need

but sadly to say that most of the ID in our house reno is not the upper hand of the industry.

I would say, lighting: Yes, need ID around. Where to place the light and the distance between each light source is a very important factor. Ur ID knows everything about the house design (where is the TV feature wall and console, cabinet etc) so, he is advisable to appear when buying lights.

But for furniture, no need. Nice design furniture might not be comfy...if my ID ask me to go for something which is matching perfectly but not comfy, sorry, I wont choose it also

I think you can get ID involved HOWEVER you should do your own homework first.

From my own experience, ID tends to recommend shops/places that they are familiar with (or where they can get commissions). So it's better for you to do your own homework on prices and styles before getting ID involved.

Hope this helps some.
