Hi ymjp100

Just saw your thread today... can I have the contact for the artichoke lamp too as well as the price? Hunting high and low for an affordable one. Thanks!

Hi neko45073, I have sent you a pm. I hope the price point meets your expectations. We had wanted a replica that can do what the original lamp did, which was to distribute light evenly downwards without anyone seeing the light source.

Hi ymjp100,

I had bought an EM with the same layout as yours,

What I could not comprehend is that the shoe cabinet on the left of the main door entrance, is it a walk-in?

If its just a normal cabinet, what happened to the depth/space behind it?

Hello franciz, thanks for looking through this t-blog. I hope you'd enjoy your EM.

Our EMs have different layouts. If you look at the placement of your main door, you have a main pillar that cannot be removed immediately on the left. That is why on your ground floor, you have what is called a "study/bedroom". My layout has the main pillar to the right of the main door and the room to it's left is called a "utility room" instead.

In any case, need comments on the following choices for turfing the balcony:

<img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_LprkW54UWHg/TWneAA_KFEI/AAAAAAAAAPg/poXqa8GBPJw/s640/IMG_0076.JPG" border="0" class="linked-image" />

A: 20mm pile height. olive and field green with a curled fiber to give a soft bouncy feel, and a rich and lush look

<img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_LprkW54UWHg/TWne1-7sXrI/AAAAAAAAAP8/UeexN0pnqIU/s640/IMG_0077.JPG" border="0" class="linked-image" />

B: 30mm pile height. realistic and comfortable high quality artificial turf with four color tones (field green, olive, verde green and beige)

<img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_LprkW54UWHg/TWnfLLJeF_I/AAAAAAAAAQQ/iB6OuORvWng/s640/IMG_0079.JPG" border="0" class="linked-image" />

side-by-side comparison; A on the RIGHT and B on the LEFT.

In terms how it feels under our feet, option A felt like a closely compacted rough-hewn carpet. Option B felt like more prickly yet softer.

Without considering the price point, which would you choose?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

without feeling it under the feet myself, it's a little hard to choose. but just going by the pictures i'll go for A. i like the richer green colour and also it looks more 'dense'. B does look realistic - maybe too realistic for my liking <img src="http://www.renotalk.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

How much is the cost of the grass?

& where do you get it?

We have not taken photos of the dining room since the chairs arrived. Waited five months for them. Reading the renotalk forums, we figured >3 months wait for "not in stock" furniture from Lush is typical. But five months was stretching our patience a little. And the worse part was that the service stuff don't update you of the delays until you call or write in to check. Quite terrible. But they were prompt with out coffee table and sofa set though.

First picture shows the dining room area with normal daylight.

This one shows it with light from the cove above the dining table.

Finally, an oblique top-shot of the dining table and chairs.

More of Audrey Kawasaki prints.

These two were put up in the dining area.

The one on the right is "Saying Goodbye".

IMG_1468.JPG

A close up of the frame.

IMG_1464.JPG

It was originally in bronze but we had it sprayed with matt white to match the home.

This one on the left wall is "Hyakki Yakou" or 百鬼夜行 Night Parade (inspired by Hyakki Yako scroll).

IMG_1467.JPG

A close up of the frame.

IMG_1465.JPG

This frame underwent the same treatment of being sprayed matt white. We thought the more elaborate of the two frames actually worked very well after the "white wash" treatment. The frame-maker told us that in order to get the frame (with all the ornate features) white, he actually had to build up the white paint very thinly. We kinda like the little flaws in the frame.

Hi, first of all let me compliment on a beautiful place you've got. Everything seems to come together cohesively. May I know where you get such pretty picture frames from? I am keen to get these in the same matte white finish. Thank you so much!

Like your dining light, my ID proposed the same dining light as yours in our 3D drawing. Where did you bought the light from?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The window of our bedroom faces the CTE which is about 120 metres away. It does help that there is a primary school in between to act as a sound buffer. But in the dead of the night, the constant drone generated from the tyres of the vehicles moving along the expressway can be unnerving.

Being on the 2nd floor (our unit) may not be so bad because sound travels outwards in all directions. So with the school and trees blocking, we should count my lucky stars because it could have been worse. We noticed that the sounds generated from roads tends to be heard at the mid-levels of a high rise flat. My guess is that sounds are attenuated by the trees and structures when you live on the lower levels. And at the higher levels, the attenuation is a result of distance and there is a coefficient factor to this. At the mid-levels, it is actually louder. But this does not apply to the noise generated from the basketball courts, playground etc etc that is directly below the block of flats.

Of course I may be wrong. Just my casual observation.

My humble advice is not to underestimate this noise. Get thicker curtains if you are a light sleeper. Or ear plugs.

Regarding the pendant lamp, it is a reproduction of the Artichoke by Poul Henningsen. I have scoured the various lighting shops around Singapore and none had a good reproduction. You will find many similar ones but they are not glare-free which was a key design consideration. Finally found a satisfactory model online and we had it shipped from China and assembled it ourselves. I shall PM you the online retailer and price. By the way, the lead time was about two months.

Hi I am keen on the artichoke lamp - could you PM me the contact and price too?

This was how the living room looked like two months ago:

<img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_LprkW54UWHg/TJQ9aElrklI/AAAAAAAAAKg/3NgWIknCTo8/s640/P9056632.JPG" border="0" class="linked-image" />

We did not want to have any direct lighting in the living room. So it was cove-lights all round. At the same time, we wanted the option of having only the coffee table lit. Next requirement was: no PLC downlights. So the Arco Lamp design was practical in achieving our requirements. This is a repro (of course!).

The three repro lamps: Artichoke in dining room, Random Light in stairwell and Arco Lamp in the living room forms a straight line. Not intended. Just happened to be. Whimsical serendipity.

Hihi - for the cove lights, are there gaps between each flourescent lights, or must it be continous side by side, am counting how much lights i need. Thanks!

Hi,

You have got yourself a fabulous home there.

Mind sharing the quote with us?

Thanks.

Hello Ashley, the total was less than $70K. But that was in early 2010...

We did consider but in the end we only concealed those in the masterbed room. The pipes at our place are the original from 1987. I think HDB will change all internal pipes in this estate within the next five years. Maybe then can consider renovating and concealing all the pipes.

Concealing pipes require more work. More work definitely equals to more cost. :( Concealing pipes definitely hide the ugliness. :good:

I hope you'd find yourself an honest ID/contractor. Most are alright lah...but always do your market research....like asking people in this forum.

Hello star70,

I left it to my ID/contractor to guide me on buying the fluorescent light tubes. Most lighting guys will include a overlap of about 3-4 inches between the two light tubes. This is to make sure that there are no gaps. It is of course no necessary but does look better without dark gaps.

Hello BoBochacha,

Thank you for the compliments. We have been living in our home for the past two years and we still enjoy it very much.

You should be able to get these frames from any framemaker with a wide selection of frames. You will have to tell them what you want exactly. When we approached Ittibaa near Boon Keng MRT, they were receptive to our requests. The frames are not matt white/black originally. We had to get the framemakers to customise. They have a website: http://www.framesandglass.com/ It's not special, just get them to do your bidding. :yamseng:
