Extreme Makeover @ Pandan Gardens

his idea of teaching poly and do part time master sounds not bad also. alternatively, he can do full time master and teach part time in uni... graduate faster and can get income at the same time ;)

yes... i agree... i think maybe doing masters full time, and working part-time as teaching assistant or research engineer, etc... would be a better option.

btw, he will be doing masters of arts (naval architecture) or wat?

somehow, i still feel it's gd to work a bit first then go for masters... at least for my case, i felt i have a better idea what i want to do, and which areas i want to have more knowledge on, then zoom-in to the particular masters programme which offers me that and also which electives to take...

if his results are very gd, and he clearly knows what he wants to achieve out of his master's education... then very gd lor... just continue after undergrad studies (at least, he won't lose momentum)...

but if he's hoping to have a better starting salary (due to paper qualification), which is possible, if the particular industry values higher educated professionals... i would suggest to reconsider...

i don't know how much passion he has for his craft... but sometimes, what one studies in his course and what he is eventually working as in the industry may vary... and even if it's the same... sometimes, people's passion and interests change over time too... :)

and again, with higher qualifications, bosses' expectations also higher, and likely won't just treat you like any normal fresh graduate (even though you might be new to working life)

somehow, a lot of my colleagues who are studying Architecture, also continued with their Master's after their undergrad studies... maybe it's very common for architecture students...

just my thoughts again...

i think this naval architecture is not the artistic kind of design... is more to the engineering/technical side like design of the shipyard and ships... correct me if i'm wrong ;)

if you are refering to the normal "artistic" architecture degree, it's a requirement to complete the master degree to be qualified as an architect. structure of the course is 3 yrs bachelor + 1 yr work attachment + 2~3 yr master = total of 6~7 years ;)

He is eyeing on taking Marine Business Management. Looking for company sponsors. He said he is not interested to take engineering masters, No Point.

Else he will just take doctorate in Engineering. Wild ambition indeed. :paint:

Anyway, his mummy is a 'graduate' of 'University of Society' and holds a 'Master in Home Management'. Knows nothing about what you guys and my son are talking here.....

business management related master degrees normally requires minimum 2 yrs working experience. anyway, even if he can, go in right after graduate is not good cos no experience - don't understand much and cannot contribute in class/project group.

frankly, PhD in engineering even worse than masters... can only be researchers and options are very limited~ my PhD friends all ended up in government research bodies.

My advice to him is the same as yours - better gain a few years of working experience before he further his study. Green horn, knows nuts about working life, least to say organisational management skill.

PHD....like my youngest son used to tease him - study until Permanent Head Damage, 'no use one'!

He did tell me he more or less has interest in research work....hmmm.....he said his final project now focus on energy research on how those photovoltaic / solar energy / wind turbine / fossil, or dont know wat, can be designed & used in shipbuilding. :P

I surrender myself to all my children! Just hope that at least 1 of the 3 darlings can make a decent living & support me when I retire in the next few years. :)

Besides not cooking at home, I don't even boil hot water at home. I bought this water dispenser which comes with hot / cold water, and only troublesome is to change its 4- filters once a year.

How's the electricity consumption? Do you change the water everyday?

I am not sure about electricity consumption, but it is convenient as there is a water tap to connect water to the dispenser.

The cold water is really ice cold type.

Very funny, two days ago I received a pm from Straits Time reporter X who saw this reno blog & asking the same request as the reporter M who approached me last month for my contribution to 'My Space' weekly column.

I initially thought they were from the same team, because when that lady reporter M approached me earlier, it was scheduled for March publication. However, due to space constraint, the column stopped for couple of weeks, and our slot is postponed to April. So, when the other reporter X contacted me 2 days ago, I thought they have resume the weekly column.

Today, when I received 2 separate PM from them, I then realized it was a duplication & explained it to the reporter X.

I have confirmed to Reporter M to send the photographer for the shot on next Friday afternoon.

Will let you know the publication date of my contribution to ST's column.

Today, the solid surface contractor is coming to seal up the gas hob and repolish the top for me. I guess it must be very dusty hor? :P

Anyway, I thank my ID for going extra miles to help me repolish the solid surface due to my rash act. I will explain this in detail later today. ;)

Bro Kobelala

I only serve plain water to my guests, so you will definitely have a taste of it next Sunday!

During the renovation period, I asked the vendor to collect back for filters replacement & servicing. The vendor is very kind to store the water purification for 2 months in their place, even though they also moved their office during the same period, without charging me for storage.
