Extreme Makeover @ Pandan Gardens

Recommended Posts

Hi, Ely1

You can plot your chart, with DOB & time here:

http://www.masteryacademy.com/bio2/profile/registerBPS.asp

You can also PM me & I can send you a brief analysis.

With an "Analyser" profile, there are pros & cons ...because at it's extreme, it is Procastinating!

Take the Philips soundbar & an iPad which I'm supposed to get in late January. Then, I thought of waiting for IT show & buy at the show where there are promotions. What happened now? I'm still contemplating if I should buy a soundbar for TV console, or to get an entertainment system & place it in my room. I am also contemplating if I should get an iPad, or a notebook (after I get rid of the old notebook & desktop while moving out last Nov), comparing my preference against usage.

Now, I have moved in for 2 months & Im still thinking of what to buy!! Of course I do have weakness for new clothes and they are impulse buys & are still with tags intact, sitting in my wardrobe!!

I really admire those forumers like yourself who made it an effort to buy all stuffs while renovation is still in progress.

You have really bought a lot of things ready, right?

Hi Mae,

I think I just like being ready. Wasn't much of a choice to buy or not - had to buy in time for the carpentry to start, or the vanity to be designed, or the kitchen cabinets to be planned, etc.

Haha, I have so many clothes still with tags attached that I now make it a point to only wear the stuff that has tags on them! :P

You're so funny about your son's gf's little incident in the kitchen! All white and sparkly - I think I would have cleaned and fumed at the same (no 'bing bing bang bang' of pots), then go complain to my husband all night haha!

Odd about the glass hob - I definitely want mine sealed! I thought it was supposed to withstand the heat etc, hence it's a hob??

So far, have bought:

Mattress + pillows + mattress protector + bedframe

All shower fixtures - shower heads, mixers, vertical arms, unions, rain shower, one mirror and toilet roll holder for common bathroom, one towel rail for Master (master bathroom's mirror to be constructed)

All sanitary ware - toilets and sinks, + respective taps

HTS - Receiver, subwoofer, NAS storage/Media player, TV, 5.1 speakers, blu-ray player

Study - HP printer, (using existing notebooks), tube amp (looking for suitable speakers)

Kitchen appliances - Fridge, Wine chiller, Built-in oven, Hob, Hood (Still looking for coffee drip machine & microwave), filtered water jug, cutlery, glasses, pots, coffee press.

Two kitchen sinks w/ chopping boards & drainers + faucets

Laundry - washer and dryer

Pet stuff - dog bed, pet igloo/side table, litter box washstand, pet potty

Blu rays - haha! To anticipate the use of the HTS!

Bed & Bath - all linen, TV, bath + hand towels

Vacuums - handheld and normal vacuum.

Art - metal art x2, bali paintings x3, decal x1 (more DIY later on)

* Yet to get: ventilator fans, furniture, lighting, crockery...

Did the chart and I'm supposed to be:

As sis Marshy explained above, there is thermal expansion of the glass material of the hob, and if the heat build up cannot release, then the hob surface will crack, biang!

My ID called me this morning and told me that he will ask the solid surface contractor to come & seal the hob for me. He said the contractor will explain to me the pro & con, as the silicon will heat up & becomes toxic, and there is heat transmission which will cause the glass hob to crack!

That's why they did not encourage to seal up the glass hobs. But if I insisted, then I cannot blame them when the glass hobs cracked while cooking in the future, and I have to sign an indemnity form when the solid surface contractor comes to visit me.

I did check with my friend who knows Darren of PlushLiving during my renovation, and he confirmed the same logic too...nobody ever seal up the glass hobs.

Has anyone came across this problem? Did you seal up the edges of your glass hob?

i also thought that it will be sealed. But i will take note. see what my contractor says when mine is installed.

maybe... very likely... wahahahaha

i read from somewhere in RT that you can seal, but not fully tight seal so as to give some allowance for thermal expansion of the glass. maybe you can check with the contractor on the details ;)

my previous place was stainless steel gas hob so surely they will seal.

Dear Marshy

This is a good piece of advice! :thumbs up:

Before renovation, I have one glass induction hob (never used) and one stainless steel type (frequently used by maid), both were sealed but after a while the silicon glue on the stainless steel became 'burnt' and the hardened residue came off easily.

I have in mind to ask the contractor to use transparent silicon to seal only 3 sides of the glass hob, to leave some rooms for thermal heat expansion.

hi mae, i came across this situation 2 days after moving in. when i was cleaning the hob after our first cooking, i realised how come my hob can shift one! i realised it was not glued to the solid top. Could it be that the carpenter so blur and forget to silicon it? i called my id and checked.

likewise, he gave me the same rational about silicon melting and stuff. but i told him not practical leh... oil will seep in and damage my stuff underneath... so, he arranged the carpenter down to sealed up with silicon...

till now, i never regret the decision. seal or dun seal doesn't make the whole hob on solid top ugly leh.. it's more of a practical reason. my previous rented place at kovan melody and my mother-in-law kitchen at country grandeur all using silicon to seal the hob to the solid top. it's a norm conventional practise i guess.

It will also ease cleaning & wiping as water won't get into the sides of hob. I don't cook, but will boil herbal soup & 'liang teh', so definitely have to seal up the sides in case over-boiling!

ya .. wonder if mine will be sealed or not since mine also glass hob. will ask next week when its installed. :P

Woah....so many home makers installing glass hobs.....must take the advice of sis Marshy to seal only partially, leave some rooms for the thermal heat to escape! :P

Boiling or cooking using pressure cooker will not overflow. The solid surface top contractor just called and explained alot to me. He also suggested that I train my son's gf to use bigger pots when boiling soup, or use rice-cooker or those cookware with depth deep enough to hold the volume.

He explained that the heat will disperse in the long run when cooking and will react with the silicon to produce toxic gas. The cook will inevitably inhale the toxic gas and bad for health. He does not want his firm to be blamed for intoxication!

Further, he noted that there should be a rubber lining for the hob to sit on it. But this is missing for the model of the hob which I bought.

The worker is coming this Saturday to seal the edges along the hob for me. At the same time, the worker is also re-polishing the solid surface top....sob sob sob....

I will explain this after it is re-polished on Saturday...very paisei.....there are 'eyes' here... :P

You are welcome! I will write a brief on all profiles and hopefully you know your strength! If I write on weakness and other stuff here, I think the creator will come after my back!

This morning when I leave the house, the hob is lifted in the position as seen in the photograph, and the drawer is ajar to dry the interior.

When I came home this evening, the hob & drawer are all properly put in place & closed.

I don't know whether I should cry or laugh...if I'm in yesterday's foul mood & my son's gf is at home just now, I guess I would flare up again. Why? The interior wooden cabinet needs to air & dry after the spills last evening for at least next 4 days for it to completely dry out! Otherwise it would become mouldy! Yuk!

Hai......she is still a little girl but I know she is trying to pacify me by keeping the place neat, putting back the hob & drawer after the incident yesterday.

If she comes back with my son later, I will talk to her nicely. Afterall, she is quite a nice lady ...well mannered & soft spoken lady. :)

But looking at my son's BaZi chart, the wedding bell won't ring until 3-4 years later. Otherwise, his marriage won't last if he marries earlier.
