Eg when you need to top-up the refrigerant, are there different makes, or they are all the same?

NO.

Older refrigerant R22 which is going to stop production soon. but dunno when.

Newer refrigerant R410A is more environmental friendly. This will replace the R22. Pricing wise, R410A is more expensive when top up.

Each aircon have their own spec. If your aircon spec is using R22, then u can not top up R410A in it and vise-versal.
