I agree that change of one's destiny is possible but it's very challenging (i.e. tough) with the intervention of one's bad karma brought over from past life (if a person believes in it).

If you watch "taiwan long-juan-fong" (not sure what it's called in English but it's a super-long taiwanese drama), the matriach of the Ng family is well-versed in purple star astrology. She had explained this word "ming-ge" ("ming" as in one's life & "ge" as in character in chinese meaning).

And as to why a person could forsee his ultimate outcome ("ming yun") based on their character ("xin-ge"). So to avoid the bad "ming yun", they have to recognise their own characters & its pitfalls, change their own attitudes, characters, etc to improve their luck & "ming yun".

It's easy to quote what she says but to get it done, it's really tough.
